Yes Pebbles8,
Our clinic did say a onion rot can cause B. Cepecia. That was only after myself reserching and me questioning the clinic. With this disease you have to do a lot of reserch yourself, especially with it being such a complex disease.
There are many things that can give bad pathogens to our CFer's.
I don't know why knowing that bad onions were compaired to a movie 'Bubble Boy World'. This is a progressive disease and as time goes by the CFF discovers what is harmful and ways to prevent harm. For example, useing gloves if your slicing onions was a good example, or hand sanitizer. The most they have come up with due to prevention of dangers of bad pathogens/bacteria etc. is Hand Cleaning, trying to avoid sick people, and do your treatments. But, you don't have to be put in Bubble Boy World, to take care of yourself.
There are things that are in your control with this disease and you don't have to be fearful ,but to know something that is harmful and do it and take chance's that you may not catch something is crazy. It doesn't make me a Bubble Boy to be cautious, and Knowledge is Power! There will be many things to be cautious with that you will discover over the years.
It's okay to eat onions, but, I am very cautious with onions or any veg or fruit that is turning bad.
Don't feel guilty that you didn't know, that is what is so good about this site. You can ask questions and we can learn from it, take what we want from it, keep it and use it, or ignore it,or even better take your questions and write them down for your next appt.and discuss it with the CF Clinic.
Good Luck Sweetie, and it's great you are wanting to learn, karla<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">
