Background checking someone.

Does anyone have an advice on running a criminal background check on someone? As well as child abuse clearance, credit and DMV? I see services on the web for it but I'm looking for a personal recommendation before I just pick joeblow website. No one in my life has been very helpful. I'm hoping someone on here has some experience.

This might seem off topic but in actuality it is cf related. If I didn't have cf I wouldn't have to hire private, home child care.

What?! I don't have any advice for you on the check thing, I don't have a clue. But why do you have to hire private child care because of CF?

You could check with your local police department to see if they could suggest someone, something. Also, if your potential employee has a criminal record, that would be a matter of public record, though you'd probably have to pay a fee for a copy of a report. I suppose you could check with someone at your bank to see how they conduct credit histories.

Have you checked her references?

We paid for a years subscription with a good one a few years ago. Cant recall what it was. Right now all I can suggest is to be very careful. Often times all you are paying for is for them to find the sites and when you go on the sites you have to pay again to actually get the info.

EDITED TO ADD: My hubby says we used Intelius.

Lauren,

I can help you with this. I did 2 of them 1 month ago - one on my husband for immigration and one on my mother for her employment.

1. Go to <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.psp.state.pa.us/.
</a>
2. Third option down says "criminal background check". Click it.

3. Next it will ask you if this is a one time thing or if you want a membership. The choice is yours. I did a one time thing. It cost $10.00 per check.

4. They ask you the SS# (if known, this is the best way to check someone), name, race, sex, birthdate, and alias (other names - maiden names).

5. Fill it out.

6. It will then ask you how you want to pay for it. I chose my Visa Debt Card. You will then enter the payment info.

7. Next you submit everything.

8. If they have no record, it will say no record immediately.
If they have a record, it will take a few days for the system to find them and they WILL send you a copy to your address so you can see exactly what is on them and how many times and .....

Good luck! Let me know if you need anything further! When it comes to this stuff, I have lots of info. This site I gave you is for PA state police. For other states it will be different. This check (if I'm correct) is only good for PA. Meaning if they did something in Florida (for example) it probably won't show it. Make sure to find out everywhere they lived!!!

Oh, and this is where the local police sent me.

I live only 3 blocks away, and they sent me home to do this. You can ask them about checking people from other states, but I'm positive that they will make you use the site I just gave you for checks in PA.

Thanks for the advice ladies.

Melissa, I'll look into that company and see what all they are offering these days.

Jennifer, Great to know how to do PA. I'd like a national check though. Call me paranoid but I don't just want to check the states she's lived in with how easy it is to travel about the US and all.

Emily, Good question. For me germ avoidance is key to staying well with cf. I by no means live in a bubble don't get me wrong. Aside from me staying home with my little guy, which would be the best thing germ wise, the next best thing I believe is a nanny at my home. If I didn't have cf I would likely have considered daycare more of an option, although in my city the daycares that accept infants aren't any good.

I would stay at home now but my husband is finishing up his post doctoral work and we are dependant on my income. Not to mention I feel great and love to work and earn a living. The plan is for me to keep working until he has a job (1 more year) at which point I can keep working or stay at home. A lot of it depends on my health and how much I enjoy working and how I feel about my child's development / how much I desire to be around him all the time. I'm guessing I'll probably want to stay home with him since that's how I was brought up.

I will likely not go part time after learning from this site more about SSDI and the 40 credit look back. Going part time can really screw you from getting the amount you may once have been elgible for at a higher income.

Now that I've gone totally off topic.
