bactrim

We were told Owen should be on Bactrim for two weeks for his Staph culture/cough but we ran out of it three days early. Does everyone use it for two weeks?
In all these years, I have never run out of meds that were measured. Seems odd, but it's true!

we usually use it for 10 days, if my dd is in the middle of some flu or something then it is extended to 2 wks, but for us the standard is 10 days.

I think bactrim is often a 10 day abx course (not necessarily for cf'rs).

Does the bottle say 2 weeks or 10 days? It if says 2 weeks you should have had enough, in which case it was a pharmacy error.

Did his symptoms improve, if not you might want to give the Dr a call and ask....

Is it like Keflex or zithromax that have a short shelf life in liquid form? There were certain abx with DS where the pharmacy would give me the unopened bottles containing the powdered medicing, so I could just add the water. Otherwise, I'd be running to the pharmacy every week for refills.

Yeah, I would check to make sure the pharmacy gave you enough. Cf kids get longer and higher doses of antibiotics, so some pharmacists are not used to it. I can remember twice where they did not give me enough antibiotics for the 2 weeks and I had to call/go back to get the rest.

Now I always count out the pills to make sure they will be the 2 week dosage or however long it is prescribed. Yes, the OCD is kicking in.

How is your son feeling?

I wish I had paid better attention to the bottle when we got it! I called the pharmacy and they are going to fax in another order to the doctor. I do not know what happened but I am waiting to hear back from the doctor about whether or not we need to continue until Wednesday with a new prescription.
The Bactrim helped tremendously! He got better within a week, I will never let anyone wait six weeks before treating his nasty cough like that again. Unfortunately, he seems to be getting a cold now <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> Seriously, if it's not one thing, it is another. He is sniffly and bringing up more from CPT than he did last week. I know the Bactrim won't help a cold but I hate to not complete a course of abx in this situation.
Thanks for the replies, it is good to hear it has happened to others, I am not losing it completely (yet!). I will most definitely check the bottle and be fastidious about it all in the future. It is such a waste of time to deal with the same drug twice!
