bactrim

I wish I had paid better attention to the bottle when we got it! I called the pharmacy and they are going to fax in another order to the doctor. I do not know what happened but I am waiting to hear back from the doctor about whether or not we need to continue until Wednesday with a new prescription.
The Bactrim helped tremendously! He got better within a week, I will never let anyone wait six weeks before treating his nasty cough like that again. Unfortunately, he seems to be getting a cold now Seriously, if it's not one thing, it is another. He is sniffly and bringing up more from CPT than he did last week. I know the Bactrim won't help a cold but I hate to not complete a course of abx in this situation.
Thanks for the replies, it is good to hear it has happened to others, I am not losing it completely (yet!). I will most definitely check the bottle and be fastidious about it all in the future. It is such a waste of time to deal with the same drug twice!

That's great the bactrim helped him! Not sure how old your child is but my daughter is 8 and can swallow pills so I try to get her medications in pill form. It's so much easier than measuring out yucky medicine and the pills stay fresh longer. It's easier to keep track of.

You are right in that antibiotics do not help a cold however, this is where CF gets tricky. Even a cold can cause problems in CF making bacteria multiply and the boogers/mucus is like a medium for the bacteria to grow. So, many times a cold or virus that a "normal" person can fight off with time and rest, a person with CF needs antibitoics for plus the CPT or vest and nebs...Hope that makes sense and you get everything straightened out!

Thanks so much. I had not thought of the pill form. I will certainly try that, especially since he can swallow Creon so I know it is possible.
I have been feeling a little bit paranoid lately about the "troll"/faker thing that comes up here so I do want to be clear here: Owen does not have a CF diagnosis. We have been around and around with him, he once had a clinical CF dx, but he seems to be a grey zone kid. He does go from a cold to lung infections rapidly and he did culture Staph, has atelectasis and bronchial wall thickening. He does so very well with Creon, he gets better with CPT. He needs antibiotics often. Anyway, while he does have lots of CF symptoms and improves greatly with CF treatment as well as being seen at the CF clinic, I just want to be seen as honest and not soliciting sympathy when it is not deserved! Maybe that is my version of OCD

** They just called to say he is going to get another week of Bactrim.

Hi,
we where told to use bactrim for 3 weeks cause it was a cold (runny nose mostly) that seemed to be comeing back and back again.
When I asked why so long the doctor (cf clinic doctor) told me taht it was cause of the time of incubation of the bacteria she was fighting. So it was to fight everything out. But she had only an overgrowth of physiological bacteria - so it was not dangerous. Maybe this will help you.
