Well, I did something I know I shouldnt, but I did...I couldnt take it anymore. I couldnt even hold down regular grits. If I continued going like I was, I would have ended up in the ER and been on IVs from dehydration. I had thrown-up so much that my chest and back muscles were hurting. I had trouble making myself bleed enough to even check my sugar (when my body is stressed, my sugar bottoms out.). I couldnt keep food or drink down, nausea meds were not helping. So, I stopped taking my antibiotic 24 hrs ago (please dont shoot me, I know I shouldnt do that, but it wasnt helping if I was throwing-up anyway), to see if that was the cause of my vomitting/nausea. It was, I havent thrown up since stopping it. I will be on the phone to my doctor first thing in the morning. I will get a response from him even if I go to his office and sit there until he talks to me. I will let you guys know what he says. Hopefully he will put me on something different.

Joni, I did tried eating with, before, or not at all with the antibiotic but always got the same results. I'm leaning towards allergic reaction. I will find out tomorrow. Unfortunately, where I live, its small and a lot of drs around here dont know how to treat with CF, so I would need to talk to my primary Dr that gave me the medicine. If not, I will get put into the hospital to be "observed" until monday when my primary doctor comes back. I dont want to risk unnecessary risk of being in the hospital just because a on call dr doesnt know what to do with me.

My son took Bactrium and had the same problems so I looked it up it seems that these are actually side effects of the drug. Flu like symptoms. Many people have the same problem. Both on the oral Septra form or on the IV form of the drug.

Ask your Dr before you start worrying about being allergic.

I did look up the medicine and saw that they were the side effects, but since they were getting worse...I had to do something. I finally got in touch with my doctor. He put me on Tetracycline. I read the paper and the side effects are similar, but so far so good. My doctor never said yes or no on the allergic part, so I'm not gonna write of the medicine yet, just not gonna take it this go around. If I ever have to take it again, we will see what happens. Thank everyone for you information and advice <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">.

I'm on tetracycline right now as well. Just started on it a couple days ago. It doesn't work very well anymore but it was a wonder drug for about 2 years. Nothing kept me as healthy as that one did. My cultures still say it's sensitive to it but I just don't feel much better when I'm on it. It only deals with the fever and the rest of the side effects stay anyway. Good luck with it!
