Be careful fundraising "for a cure"

Apparantly the Susan G. Komen Foundation spends a good deal of money going after other charities that use the "for a cure" phrase in their fundraising. They have patented the phrase, so now all the other disesease that need a cure and fundraise for that cure are potential targets for being sued.

This makes me crazy aggravated!!!! I thought I'd share and get your opinions.

I saw this and was SO upset. They spend more money legally attacking other charities than many charities could ever hope to raise toward their causes... how very offensive.

As if breast cancer is the only disease worth curing? How can you 'own' the word 'cure'?!?! This is so unbelievable. I think multiple causes of all types (spanning many diseases) should band together, find some pro bono lawyers known to support non-profits to represent them and go after them for this. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif" border="0">

eta> I hasten to add that I mean NO offense whatsoever to efforts toward curing breast cancer. My mother is a breast cancer survivor. But this is outrageous.

UGHH. that was awful! I was even pissed when all the NFL teams wore pink for breast cancer. Very important cause and all but my god! They do so much publicity and with early mammograms, it can be treated and cured. CF gets nothing and our kids fight every damn day. I hate it, all politics or something...

As someone who has been fundraising for a cure for 30+ years I find this utterly offensive and disgusting use of donor funds. I will never support SGK foundation again...very sad.

I'll keep you all posted if they come after me with my Indulge for a Cure event. My guess is that they don't go after big foundations which the CFF would be defined as I believe.
