I was just wondering if any of you get acne very bad? My son used to have great skin and then the past couple of years when he's been in and out of the hospital his skin has gotten really oily and lots of blackheads. Just wondering if its a CF thing or just a teenage thing or maybe a bit of both.</end quote>

Does he take Prednisone when he goes in? I think that may cause acne.....could just be the teen years. I did have probs as a teen....but, age has helped with that. If he is CFRD it could be a dry skin problems. We always think we need to use harsh alcohol to dry acne up when in fact sometimes we need moisturizer so our skin is not over-reacting to the over dry skin and causing acne. I use to have that problem in my twenties until I started moisturizing more.

Let's see...

First of all, I am going to be checking out all the under eye dark circle hints- I have those bloomin' things in my baby pics! I hate them, and it just get worse if I'm not careful when I try to cover them up now that I have fine lines under my eyes *sigh*.

I use the Eurcerin Q 10 face cream- I love this stuff. I have oily skin that also gets really dry- gah. This takes care of the dry without making the oily parts worse, nor does it feel heavy. It's also for sensitive skin, and there is an spf version too.

I also started using mineral makeup a couple of years ago, and it is really light and quick to put on, plus I think it has helped lessen break outs.

I keep a strawberry or cherry flavored chapstick in my purse- the little bit of tint helps me not look quite so tired, I think.

Oh! I also have the Chapstick "naturals" that I use for really dry spots on my face, usually overnight- it works wonders, especially when you have a cold and around your nose and upper lip gets red and chapped too .

I wear my hair long and layered, but it only takes 3 curlers and no hairspray to do my hair (my hair is thin and fine). If the curlers mess up or it's going to be a long day, I get a big hair clip and clip it up in a twist type ponytail. Come to think of it, I pretty much live with my hair in that twisty ponytail these days, lol.

Stretchy no iron t-shirt material is my best friend, lol.

That's all I can think of at the moment .

I thought of something else, lol. I use a clear ridge filler fingernail polish- it really works, and my nails look 110% better when I've got it on .

Boy, this is like reading Glamour magazine -- you guys are good.

I am not a makeup person, but if I want to look okay, I use Clinique products: light moisturizer, wear a Sports Tint "foundation" -- super light. Presently Clinique Sheer tint. Under eye concealer, And whatever cream or stick type bronzer they make -- it's always changing -- I just don't use any powders (not good to breath in). Almay mascara. Clinique night cream. Everything is always hypoallergenic.

A word about dark circles under the eyes -- my dr. says that this is one of the marks of allergy people. And when she sees kids with dark circles -- it's always the most obvious clue.
And she treats teen acne as allergy also. If acne were caused only by teen hormonal changes, all kids would would have it, and they don't. When she treats for allergy, the acne clears up -- she says the worst thing is when dermotogists shoot the pimples full of cortisone -- because that can leave marks.

I wanted to mention about what I wore in the hospital to make me feel better -- workout clothes. The stretch type yoga pants or cotton warm up pants and either short or long sleeve tops and sweatshirts. When someone came into my room, they'd always look around for the sick person. And then if I walked around in the hall, I felt better too.

For those of you who wear nail polish, you should wear a mask when applying -- and if there is such a thing as a natural or fumeless polish I would use that.

And James, I love that you jumped in here. You are one cool, funny dude! Be careful with the cortisone cream -- I like it too. But my doctor just told me not to use it. It thins the skin which will make your problem worse in the long run. I think I once read, not to use it for more than 3 weeks at a time.

My hair is short and kind of piecy -maybe once every year or two put a couple of streaks for fun. (I wear a charcoal mask if I do it.) If you put "product" in it, then no one can tell if your hair is greasy or it is the look.
