It really is best to get the input from your doctor. I can answer general questions for you but you should always check with your doctor because they know you best, know your body, your meds you are on etc. Or one would hope they do.. When you say your sugars are high, how high are you talking? Are they high before you eat? after you eat? and if so after you eat, how long are you checking them after you eat?

I agree with Jennifer...many of us here have CF related diabetes and can answer many questions, but it is still something that you need to discuss with your doctor. I have had CFRD now for 12 1/2 yrs now...so I would be happy to answer any questions as well. Another question for you is do you check them in the morning before eating or drinking anything...how is it then?

Post from JennifersHope is good. Definitely check with your doc. The first things that come to my mind are ...

1. Sometimes your blood sugars will shoot up when you are coming down with a cold or other sickness, or when (sorry) you are having an exacerbation of symptoms in your lungs.

2. If you haven't starting taking insulin yet, you may just be getting to the point that you need to start. Diabetes with CF should come on very slowly (due to very gradual harm to the pancreas), but for me it just showed up all of a sudden. If you're worried about having to start taking insulin, don't! Taking insulin shots is a lot easier than you think. The needles you use for insulin are extremely thin and short, so they hurt a lot less than a typical flu shot or whatever. Also, you don't inject insulin into your muscle, so that makes it hurt less also.

There's a big upside to taking insulin. I was always very skinny and not that healthy before I started taking insulin. But once I started taking insulin, I got up to normal weight and my health is great. So don't fear it too much. Feel free to contact me at dgraettinger@netzero.net.

Hey well ive been checking first thing in the morning and its been ok i did ha e a morning where it was 155 then ill test before i eat and two hours later now my sugars ive noticed have been 160 after eating ...now i haven been diagnosed with diabetes but the doc wanted me to start checking my sugars..i did have a glucose tolerance test done but it was ok.

The doc said for me 70-120 is my normal ..so if im having the high sugars does this mean there is something going on?

I will be contacting my doc obviosly but wanted opinions from you Cfer's :)
