My story is eerily similar to yours. I do agree and let me tell you
why. A few people may have read this all before, but here goes.

About a week or so before the 4th of July my son picked up a little
cold, I thought. It was mainly coughing, and quickly got worse. We
went to the CF clinic a few days before the 4th of july. He was
prescribed an antibiotic, Cipro I believe, and I was told to call
july 5th if he wasn't better. He was worse by then, so prednisone
and albuterol were prescribed. He seemed to be getting better,
but when meds ran out, he went right back to how he was in the
first place. (Bad coughing/wheezing) So he was prescribed more
anti's, more pred, and inhaled steroid. If he wasn't better in a
few days, he was going to be hospitalized for IV meds.

In the middle of all this, we had to switch clinics because we
moved, the state healthcare in our new state refused to cover the
hospital stay in the old state.(Long story!) So the new clinic
doc opted not to send him to the hospital, but do another round of
anti's, more inhaled steroids, bronchiodialtors,
and pulmozyme. Once he finished these, he quickly declined
back to the original cough/wheeze, so now the doc has him on the
same, without the anti but with zantac and something for post nasal
drip. If he's not better next week he will be admitted
(supposedly)

So my point is that he's been unnecessarily fighting this cough for
over a month now, and he too has done 3 rounds of anti's, 3 rounds
of pred, plus many more. And we're probably going to end up in the
hospital anyway. If we hadn't had to switch docs he might be out of
the hospital and better by now. If you can get the dr. to admit
you, just get it over with and be feeling better. Plus avoid
irreversible lung damage!
