You know, I coughed up blood when I was about 17. It really scared me. Fortunately, I have not struggled with that since. My brother who is now 32 w/ cf, however, coughed up huge amounts of blood all the time when he was between the ages of 11 and 17. I don't believe he has in severl years though.

How are you doing with that now? That is not a fun experience, but hang in there! So exciting to hear you are due for your baby soon!!!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

hi, i'm 24 also and 21 weeks pregnant. right now i'm on HS, pulmozyme, zithromax, and advair. my doctor says there is nothing to worry about while on all of those meds. i find that the HS makes me cough, but thats a good thing since its supposed to get the yucky stuff out of your lungs.

i went to my monthly check-up (since i'm pregnant i'm being seen once a month) and the RT came in with all new neb stuff and told me stuff i didn't know. i haven't been sterilizing my neb cups....yeah germs, i know, so i went ahead and bought a bottle sterilizer so i can alternate with bottles and neb cups.

my fiance got tested (ambry test) and we haven't received the results yet and it's been five weeks. i'm not sure what the cut off is for me to have an amnio, but my doctor is highly recomending it if the carrier test comes back positive. we are all keeping are fingers crossed and praying that everything will be fine.

I would just rinse them in hot water and soak them in hot soapy water once a month because that's what my mom did growing up. Not smart, I know. So yesterday I boiled EVERYTHING!

I have heard a few women recommend the Ambry test. Does that one cover the most mutations? We have not met with our genetic counselor yet.

Haley, I'm sure you know this but amnio's come with risk. If you aren't considering aborting if the baby has cf you need to weigh the risk/benefit ratio of having the amnio or CVS for that manner. If your husband is a carrier (God please let this not be true) then there's a 50% chance of your baby having cf. I don't know what a prenatal diagnosis will do for his care. There is the arguement that you may want to "prepare yourself for having a baby with cf." If this is how you feel then the benefits probably outweigh the risks. One thing I could see being a possibility is if the baby does have cf they will want you delivering at a large hospital with a good neonatal intensive care in case (s)he requires bowel surgery upon birth. If you are already delivery at this type of hospital in which they have a good neonatal care dept. (I think the ranking is class 1, class 2, or class 3) then if I were you I'd ask why its good to know before birth. Oh and if you are considering getting life insurance for your little one you'll need to get it before that diagnosis goes through.
