Beginnings of Osteoporosis?

Not sure if anyone else has this problem, but I figured I would ask anyway. Lately I've been noticing that my bones have been cracking more often then not. I'll be sitting down, or shifting my position, or just walking, or even getting up from a chair, and my bones will crack a lot. Its usually in my back and my hip bones. Could this be the beginning of Osteoporosis? Or am I just worrying too much?

From what I have learned.. Cfers are especially prone to osteoporosis because of the malabsorbtion of Vitamin D... also because most CFers end up on steroids at least for a short period of time which also can add to osteopenia...

As far as cracks and noises you hear.. I don't know.. Usually with the beginning of osteoporsis which is called osteopenia, you don't have any signs and symptoms of anything...

Usually they do a bone scan more specifically a dexa scan to look at the density of your bone, that is the most specific test that I know of...

I have a few things wrong with my bones so I don't know which is from which...

I dont know if the cracking has anything to do with osteoporosis because I have always cracked. Or at least for as long as I can remember & my daughter & one sister (no cf) also do. My husband always joke that one day I will be walking along, something will crack & the next thing he will see is a body part bouncing past him.

I did get a bone scan a couple of years back, but I've just noticed lately that I've been getting these cracks, more so then before.

I can remember hearing somewhere (I don't remember where, but I am going to start looking again) that the cracking noise we hear is not from the bones. It has to do with gas being released from the tissue surrounding the bones. I don't know how reliable the info is...anyway, just something to look into.

I found something about knuckle cracking (I am ASSuming the sound is caused by the same thing no matter what joint pops).

The Real Deal on Cracking Your Kuckles
What's really happening when you "crack" your knuckles is that you are either pushing the joint back into or out of its normal position. Joints are the meeting points of two separate bones which are held together by connecting tissues and ligaments. A thick, clear lubricant (made mostly of carbon dioxide and some nitrogen) called synovial fluid is found between the bones. When you stretch or pull your finger to get that desired popping noise, you are causing the bones to pull apart. Pressure is reduced on the synovial fluid and bubbles form that quickly expand and then burst - which is why you get that noise.

This was taking from <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.kidzworld.com/site/p1438.htm

</a>
So I really don't think the cracking noises have anything to do with osteoporosis.

Now that you bring this up I do remember my Chiropractor telling me this. He said unless there has been damage done to a joint, it doesnt normally hurt the joint to crack it. Even tho cracking in general is ok, he had said not to force it or do it to harshly. He put it as "air" inbetween which gets moved around causing the noise which just backs up the links you posted.
