Belly Button Ring?

Hey just wondering if any of y'all have gotten a belly button ring, I don't have digestive problems much (i.e. bloated tummy) so I was just wondering how you've dealt with this if you do have one. (I'm considering one for my 19th birthday / 2 year post tx. anniversary) Of course this will take some convincing of my doctor but I'm pretty sure I can do it. Anyway, any advice, opinions, especially of that concerning any medical problems that you've had off of your own would be welcome.
(I'm not sure if this should be in off topics, since it's asking about whether or not you've had problems with it especially because of the CF) ::shrugs::

I pierced my own belly button when I was 19, and never had any problems with it due to CF. (30 now)
I am also 2 years post tx, and did my first piercing 3 months post surgery, since then I have added another 5 rings and stretched my ears 9 times all up ( ears are 10mm) all prior to surgery.
just follow the prierces instructions to the T and you shouldnt have too much probs, provided your doc gives you the thumbs up, my docs knew me well enough to know how good I was at caring for piercings and didnt have a problems in me doing then provided I didnt pierce any mucus membrane ( tongue, nose, lips, or genitals)

hope this helps, and good luck with if you go ahead with it.

I have had my belly button pierced since i was 13 and now i am 20. There has been no problems what so ever! I have a g-tube and all and still no problems!!! I have thought about getting a tattoo around my g-tube!! Just to be different! So i think that if you docs say its ok than you should do it! I didnt ask my doc but hey, that was the kid in me!!! I am stubburn!

Hi,
I have had my belly button pierced for almost 10 years now, along with other piercings as well. No problems what so ever. I've also had elective surgery (boob job) with no problems. My motto...if it makes you happy, by all means, DO IT!
Have fun and enjoy your life! Congrats on doing so well post transplant!

I've never had any problems with bellybutton piercing, but if you have to go in the hospital frequently you may want to skip it because it takes about 6 months to completely heal and you CANNOT take it out suring that time. Whenever I've gone in they make me take out/off all my jewelry because if they have to shock you the metal will burn you. They even made me take it out when I was just dehydrated and needed a bag of fluids. I doubt my heart was going to stop for that.

6 months to heal? damn you should have gotten it checked out for taking that long. my navel healed in about 2 weeks was sleeping on my stomach etc the next night, I never had any ozzing or crusties whatsoever.
my nipples took about the same but couldnt change the jewellery for a month, and again had no ozzing, and this was with tx immune issues.
my slowest to heal was my eyebrow ring, being on the brow its a prime site for infection because of all the dust ect that you collect on you brow with sweat etc.
as for taking them out with surgeries, I ask my doctors if it's ok for them to be left in, and they have no problem with it, all I do is put some tape over them after my sterile shower and I am set, surgies I have had since all my piercings, have been injection of steriods directly into my chest scar because of keloiding, a abcess removed from my chest along with my sternun wire which left me with a open cavity because the abcess was the size of a golf ball, hysterectomy which was only 3 months ago which was fine by my gyno to have them taped.
Number one rule with piercings, is to use surgical steel in fresh piercing, as gold can actually irritate the area causing infection, bath with warm sea salt (NOT TABLE SALT), table salt has iodine in it which will cause the skin to react.
I took my navel ring out for my hysterectomy only because one cut went through my navel, and its been pierced that long it didnt matter.
I did have one nipple pierced before my tx but of course they had to come out for the tx and when I tried to get the nipple ring back in I couldnt because of post operative swelling, but I got it redo 3 months post transplant.

Healing time does vary a lot from person to person, but remember if the piercing is sore or red or oozing go back to your piercer and check with your doctor, you may have a infection.

I did have my hand pierced through the webbing between my thumb and first finger that I did myself as well, but positionally, it was a royal pain in the butt and I was pleased when it eventually migrated, and was helped along by eventually being ripped out, so I never bother to re do it, even though it looked pretty good, it wasnt worth the hassle.

I have more piercings planned just gotta figure out where to put them, LOL

good luck to all the fellow body stabbers!!

doh!!!! just re read that last post and I read it wrong. ( doesnt surprise me)

I read it that it took yours the 6 months to heal, sheesh I think I need to get me some glasses.

again with healing time and taking jewellery out, its individual and some peoples piercings close considerably fast while others can leave them out for years and years and the hole never closes.

I'm just not willing to take the risk of leaving mine out and having to re pierce them again. I would much prefer to do a new one then keep retracing my tracks of doing re-peircings.

sorry for the misinterpretation to the last post. Im getting old I think:p

I didn't mean that it takes 6 months to stop hurting. It takes that long to form enough scar tissue inside the hole so that it won't close up really fast. If you have to take it out for even a day before it heals completely it can close back up pretty quick. (I used to be a certified ear piercer {not body though} and believe me I'm not making this up).

Hi,
I´ve got mine since about 7 years. It didn´t hurt or bleed, but it lasted about 3 months until it was "hard" and not "getting wet" any more.
I did not have to take it out in the hospital.

I don't have mine pierced. I just have my ears and that's it. My belly is a bit big so don't want to draw more attention to it!

Nicole,
I'm exactly the opposite of you. I don't have my ears pierced because I don't want attention drawn to them (they stick out a bit). All my friends and my mom say "Just do it! It'll look good" but I'm still hesistant. I would though, get my bellybutton pierced in a heartbeat- right next to my two scars and my bard button.

I never had any luck with my belly button ring. It stayed infected, no matter what I did to take care of it. I think my stomach swelling and going back down had something to do with it. I could be wrong, but it just seems that way.
