I think I read somewhere that that sort of weight gain is symptomatic of Type II Diabetes... but then with the usual diabetes case the weight is more a cause than an effect, so I guess I don't know..... do you have CFRD?

I find that the only way i can get any sort of decent legs or arms is by regularly lifting quite heavy weights. Believe me i've seen chickens with sexier legs than me, definitely they have better thighs! I can only dream about what it would be like to have thighs...............but if i lift enough weights they develop up quite nicely and being thin the definition is quite obvious, so i get muscly quite quickly. Ive also heard that lifting weights is extra good for the chest, but i'm not entirely sure why. I find it isn't too strenuous either, not like running or swimming, so my lungs can handle it pretty well. Helps with the barrel chest too if you can build up chest and arm muscles with weights.

I do believe I need to do some weight training. My body reminds me of Kermit the Frog (without the green), but everytime I attempt a weight training work out I overexert/strain & cause my hemoptysis to kick in so I am worried. Even if I dont think I am overding.......a vicious cycle I tell you!

funny you should mention kermit...........an old boyfriend of mine nicknamed me Kermey or Frog....because he said he could really picture me sitting on a lily pad with my long skinny legs dangling over the side, playing a banjo and singing rainbow connection!! another 'term of endearment' he used was Toby, because he said i had the body of a 12 yr old boy.........................i dumped him!!

Rainbow Connection....I totally forgot that song. My sister gave my daughter a Kermit the Frog that talked when she was about 18 months....the poor kid was scared to death of it. I guess it must have been the green & not the body shape since she doesnt run from me! Sounds like a good decision to dump the guy!

I have never heard the whole kermit thing that is so funny and very true! I have chicken legs and no hips except for my pelvic bones it feels like..... The whole stomach thing I really dont understand!!!! when I start to gain weight it goes to my arms a bit, very little on the legs but mostly in the stomach and it isnt even fat! it is more of a bloated pregnant look..... I dont know? I tried the gym so that it would maybe move else where in my body toeven me out. But i just ended up loosing weight, not even gaining, so I quit that. I dont know why it happens....???

I think for MOST people, when they gain weight (which we spend 90% of our time trying to do), they gain it in their bellies first and then other body parts... I've heard this from friends, family, and different articles. My hubby also does some personal training and said that that is normal for everyone.... especially as we age.

I do think we have skinnier arms and legs than most though, which I too find strange. I mean, eventually, one would think it would HAVE to start going to other body parts, eh?!?! I mean, I've put on 20 lbs in the last 2 years, and NONE of it seems to have gone to my arms... I can still fit my fingers around my arm!

Anyway, weight training REALLY helps A LOT! I have been lifting, and find my legs have really filled out... and, I've only done it a few weeks and only do light weights. I just do lots of reps. I also do cardio on the elliptical, which is a great leg workout. Now, arms are a complete different story... I've tried to start working them, but it is slow going.

I also think the tummy appearance has alot to do with the barrel chest. I am EXTREMELY self-conscious of that... even though my hubby says he doens't know what i'm talking about... I think he's just saying that to be nice. Anyway, I think if I can find a way to even out and "fill out" my boobs, arms, AND legs, my tummy won't stick out so much, and neither will the barrel chest. I've also started to do sit-ups everyday, but I've had little luck with that in the past, so we'll see.

Anyway, just know that its normal for the "middle section" to be more plump than the rest of your body (CF or not). And, like most things, we just seem to have to work harder to live more like others. Urgh!

See now my hubby likes my belly since it is nice & flat. Unless things are really out of wack with digestion or I am bloated from my period I have a flat tummy. BUT the skinny arms/legs make it seem larger. I know that I will never gain "weight" in my arms/legs just as I know muscle mass is the only thing that will work. HOWEVER; my arm strength is "0". I cant do pushups of any sort versus my 7 year old who can do 20......I can move furniture, but that is from will power & "FULL" body assertion rather then arm strength. Someday I wil discipline myself to do muscle building for my arms & upper legs!

I hate it that when i start to gain weight its all in my stomach . Rory (fiance') says that im perfect i think i should be working out harder...trying to flatten out this damned thing. I went to the store with my two brothers. One a little older then me and one about 2 years old at the time. I was holding my lil brother and a woman infront of us looked at me and timmy and tyler and said "wow he looks just like you two..and ur having another one thats so sweet" Me and my brother held in our breath until we left the store and started cracking up laughing...but inside i was really hurt. It does look like im about 5 months pregnant at times and i wish it could go away. my arms are very thin and so are the bottem of my legs but the top are a little thick. Plus my fingers are extremely long and thin. My docs always made me laugh cuz they would crack jokes at them. I dont know i just wish my belly wouldn't be so big.

All of a sudden about 4 years ago I put on 10 pounds over night I swear! Don't ask me how cuz I don't know. And sure enough if all went to my stomach, to the point I had to buy all new pants. Then about 6 months ago I thought I was losing the weight because everything was getting baggy. But then I got weighed at the doc's and it was pretty much the same (I go between 107 and 110). I guess it finally just shifted around, which is fine by me, I can get into a size zero again but don't have to hear about weight gain when I got to clinic! Haha!

I hate the "belly" thing, but I look at it like this... I work hard at getting my belly full, so when its full and I gain weight I am happy. Sometimes I tease people who make notice of it. I tell them I have wintered well!! and most laugh it off.
