Benefits of Hyp. Saline

I just started on HS about 2 weeks ago, and have noticed that my insulin requirements are dropping each day. I normally take about 20-21 units of Lantus per day, but over the past few days I've had to take less Lantus than usual. I'm now down to 17 units (which never happens!), I'm eating the same, possibly more. Has this happened to anyone? Could it be the HS?

I LOVE the HS. I've been coughing up so much and it's actually thinning out my mucus, which pulmozyme never did. I'm really noticing a difference. I wonder if the HS is having a good impact on my pancreas/digestive system too...? I would love to hear if any of you had this happen.

Thanks,
Barbara

it's awesome you're feeling so much better from the HS. it seems odd it would affect other organs, though. maybe you are feeling better and therefore being more active and needing less insulin?

I can't imagine that HS has a direct effect on insulin requirements. However infections can cause blood sugars to rise. So, if the HS is causing you to get rid of the junk, lowering the amount of infection in the body, I guess it would be possible that your sugars might be better. But that's just a guess.

CaliSally's right. Blood sugar changes a bit depending on whether your body is under stress. Another reason why it may be dropping is because of the extra "exercise" you're getting when the HS makes you cough.

Sounds like it's going well for you. Keep us posted!

When my "infection status" gets worse, my blood sugar is rising and I need more insulin.
The HS seems to help against your infection, that would be a good explanation.

I'm definitely not exercising any more than usual, so the HS is probably working on some infection of sorts. I actually look forward to my treatments now because of the HS. Nothing has worked this well for me before. Thanks everyone for your insight!

Odd that you should mention the digestive system- I have had less abdominal bloating since I started the HS, and I don't know why...but I certainly don't mind! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> I actually look forward to my HS now too- I just feel so much better, and don't cough as much the rest of the day...
