OUr favorite Christmas is one that stays with my children. I always thought it was more of tragic but each one of the kids will repeat it at a favorite Christmas memory.
When the kids were young, I was single mom. We had very little money. Christmas was always stressful for me as I worried I wouldn't be able to provide a good Christmas for them.
I was working 3 jobs that year. We had an old Christmas tree. It was falling apart. We were having dinner and the base cracked and I just couldn't fix it. I picked up that tree, ornaments and all and through the entire thing out the front door.
The next night, the kids and I all took a giant roll of paper. We made a paper Christmas tree. Colored it green, drew all the ornaments, the star. We worked on it for hours. The kids were so proud of the tree that they hung it up over the TV. They would rather look at the tree then then watch TV.
I know today it was that memory that taught me the importance of family. That it didn't matter how little we had, we had each other.
