but I don't think much beats the Fargo wood chipper.</end quote>

There is, believe it or not, a problem with this. A guy in my state threw his wife in a wood chipper once, and they caught him on it because they found a fragment of one of her teeth. Hah!

Edited to add: Threw his wife in a wood chipper once??? What, like he'd do it again??? I'm dumb. Ahahahaha.

I just knew it had to have SEAN written all over - before I opened it! OK guys if he gets a job - he will have less time to entertain & inform us of things!! Yikes!! But I'm very happy for you! Hopefully it won't get too stressful for you - because it (working) is for me sometimes - and I'm healthy. I'm sure whoever gets the pleasure of working with you is going to enjoy it!!

Remember that OLD movie with Michael Keaton called Johnny Dangerously? Remember Joe Piscapo's famous angle? "My mother kicked me in the balls once...ONCE!". And through the whole movie he told us something bad that happened to him from someone else once....ONCE!. One of the coolest movies to watch drunk or stoned. Great flick. Anyone else remember it?

Man, I remember this old episode of the Crypt Keeper from the 80's. This woman ended up killing her husband so that she could be with her lover. The way she did it, was she threw her husband into this boiling hot vat of this acid type stuff, and ended up making soap bars out of him. It was creepy wierd, but good!

UPDATE: I sent my resume off to 3 different companies on Wednesday afternoon. I got a call back from one company (oldest in security) immediately, and wanted me to come in to fill out an application and possibly interview. Day after that I received a flier in the mail from another security company that got my info from the state D and G license pool. I applied to them online and submitted my resume also. On the way to subway about 2 hours ago I got a call back from a very well known security company wanting to schedule an interview with me. I also did a psychological exam today which seemed very centered on the aspect of theft in the workplace...So next monday I probably have an interview with the place from today, and then wednesday I have the other one that they called me back for.

Something funny about what happened today...I went in and was introduced to their "Branch Manager" Dave. He said "Hi Sean, i'm the Branch Manager dean, I hope we end up working together soon"...And I soooo wanted to say "Well Mr. Branch manager Dean, I hope you guys have room for me in the tree" heh. Thankfully my mental firewall stopped that out going packet before it reached my vocal cords.

I also probably was TOO thorough in a sample report on the application. It was extremely vague with what was presented in the scenario (while doing foot patrol I noticed someone trying to break into a car in the XYZ's parking lot), and that was all it gave me. So I wrote a really good report, but I totally filled in all the blanks with an actual suspect, height, weight, noting damage to the car, proper ways to respond if individual is compliant, proper way to respond to them not being compliant, and discussing agency protocol and state statute.

I was using a pen in their office to fill it out, and after I started it was too late, so I just said F it and finished it. I hope the branch manager isn't a turd and realizes the situation was very vague and I just filled in the blanks to show how well I can write a report.

Anyways, i'm fairly nervous. It's been a while since I was put under the microscope. They obviously like my resume, but they don't have any clue as to my nearly total lack of work experience and real big gaps in employment. Oh well, we shall see.

Out of curiosity Sean - how long has it been since you've been out of work? The reason I ask, is because I've been out of work for almost a year, and have just started sending my resume out to a few places. I'm a little freaked about the possibilities of interviews, as I haven't been on one for a good 4 years since my last job interviewed me. I'm a little apprehensive about the whole "so why haven't you been working for the past year?" question.

Awesome news though Sean - keep us posted on the outcomes!

MUCH longer than a year. Probably 8 or 9 years for me. I traveled, finished college, did security training, assed off a ton, and generally lived. There is no way around the inevitable of them asking wtf though. So I don't care, my health was much much much different then than it is now, so I'm just going to honest with them. If they laugh at me, oh well I tried.

Just wanted to say that I think after you two (Sean and Liz) have your first interview after this long....hopefully the freak-out aspect will start to go away. My situation is different, but I haven't "interviewed" with studios for about 6 years and have just started to do so since Feb. Eventhough over these years I have kind of "interviewed" with potential "clients", but it really isn't the same as with a design studio that you want to hire you. Anyways, I got my first call back in Feb, went to the interview at this studio, and was so scared before going in I seriously just wanted to cry! So many emotions, it was amazing. All the what ifs....! During the drive to the interview I was preparing the whole way for the main question I was aniticipating, "So, tell me about yourself". Before pulling up to the front door, I finally figured out my whole spiel of what to say, my little story. And this helped me to go in with a little more confidence. They never asked that question, but all in all it went well. I'v been listed on their freelance list fro when they have prohect come up, but no gig from them. Since that interview, I've been on 3 others. The second one I noticed that I wasn't even nervous anymore. The fear went away after the first one. That was a big hurdle to get over, but once you pounce through it, you could be good to go for the rest. Just remember, anyone and everyone interviewing you....they are just people. Once I remember that they are not any better than I, I get my ducks in order and just be myself in there. Always remember, you deserve what you want and try not to get too scared beforehand.

Good luck!!!!!! Let us know.

Yup @ Newfy. I seriously don't care anymore in so many of the anxiety oriented ways I should probably feel. I have nothing to hide, and i'm not ashamed of anything I did or did not do with regards to my name and my lack of work time line wise. I took a very long time to get my degree, I went on international vacation several times, I took care of two deathly ill elderly family members, I was the only person around to help keep the house in order in many ways, I did slack off some...The reason I stopped working was due to medical reasons, my disability is listed and quantified with the state/federal government. I couldn't work due to mostly insurance purposes and my health, and one necessitating the other.

I'm going to be 100% honest in this whole situation. If after they receive my resume and cover letter, if they feel that even though I interview immensely well, and have a ton of quality to offer their company, if they are going to hold me back/to the side due to my legitimate work history concerns and time gaps of employment, I don't care, and they suck. For the positions that I am applying for, I have a tremendous amount of education, training, and certifications in this particular field...If they don't like it, and want to abide by their prejudicial viewpoints, F'em...Nothing simpler than that. I was never one to say something as ignorant as "A black guy shouldnt get this job". If those same people who agree with me that you shouldn't use prejudice in hiring practices, actually can say that with my education and training, that I don't deserve a chance, than you are a hypocrit and you are just as bad as those who use other reasons to prejudge others employment wise.
