Yea i dunno...Its just frustrating because Ive been there before, not necessarily on a plane...but in classes, at stores. Its not like your going to tell everyone who looks at your funny that you have CF, but still...I guess we have to try and look at both sides...

I do like your idea Julie of bringing a note and pamphlet. I wouldnt think of something like that...but then again its confidential, we shouldnt really HAVE to do things like that.

Neither. If you've got CF, you have a reason to cough. Last I checked, CFers didn't stop coughing just because they boarded a plane. Unless something was really wrong with me (i.e. not normal CF coughing), I wouldn't let them kick me off. I'd tell them that I have CF, coughing is normal for me, and I'm fine. If they still persisted, I'd tell them to shove it.

I actually think this is great! (sheepish grin...)
Now for us, or for anyone with asthma the solution is we bring a letter from our doc that says we constantly cough normally and there is no spreadable virus present to harm other passengers. If that system could work-I'd support it fully. Then we and other people with chronic health problems or immune disorders could travel with more peace of mind. I'm sure that girl felt it wasn't fair, buti ts not fair to us either than we have to limit our travel or not travel at all sometimes b/c we're afraid we'll catch something.

I think it's crazy not sure how many people can be seated on a plan but being on a school trip with THREE dozen other kids .... taking up about 1/4 to 1/2 of the plan anyhow... And a DOCTOR cleared her to fly.... I think that little girl felt horrible for being kicked off in front of all her peers and she was probably a little more then anxious to get home to her family. ....

If I ever go on a plan I agree with Emily, I'd tell them to shove it!!!

I think the note and the pamphet (though with all the medicine, nebs, neb machine and vest I have with me when I fly, it may not be really necessary-lol) and a mention of the Americans with disablities act would keep us from getting kicked off a plane for coughing <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> . I wonder if the girl had had a note from the doctor saying she was cleared to fly, if anything would have been different.

The news program I saw also mentioned that the same airline had been in a bit of hot water not long ago over some passengers from Asia (Hong Kong? China? Somewhere with Sars) who had a cough and some kind of illness (and the whole group had it) and they let them fly, their coughing got worse in the air, and they had to have everyone on the plane detained until they deterimed that they just (just?) had the flu...they were probably a little gun shy.

im thrilled that she got kicked off. sounds like her cold was pretty bad and the symptoms were uncontrolled so it would it be unfair to the other passengers to have her spread it around. id also imagine it would be pretty darn unpleasant to fly in that state anyway. they did her a favour. i say good on the crew for booting germ girl off. i wish all airlines would kick contagious people off, or at least make them wear masks.

and as for my coughing, i have nothing to worry about. last time i checked cf wasnt contagious so if anyone ever had questions id just give an explanation or carry a note with me.
