Congratulations! I found out early too (3.5 weeks) and when I called to make my first appointment with my high risk OB I was told 6 weeks is the norm for a first prenatal appt. If you are just a little late then you are probably about 4 weeks pregnant right now. You do need to take a prenatal vitamin that contains folic acid starting today if you are not already on them.

Home pregnancy tests are so accurate that you do not need a doctor to confirm your pregnancy (I was told this by an OB). If you used a good brand like First Response, you can be almost certain you are pregnant.

Heh, you just wait til those pregnancy hormones really kick in, those emotions will intensify. You'll cry at commercials.

Have fun sharing your news.

i found out i was pregnant cause i had a ton of heartburn and my sister had heartburn when she was pregnant. i took a pregnancy test 7 days before my missed period. i took one on a monday, tuesday, and then friday. i didn't believe any of them, but was so happy when i took the last one that was a digital read that tells you flat out pregnant or not pregnant. i had to get a referral to go to an ob, so i was about 7 weeks when i went to my ob. and my ob is referring me to see a high risk doctor along side of him i think just as a precaution, but it's so exciting! i will give you this i had morning sickness really bad, they put me on anti nausea medicine cause i had lost like 8 pounds after i got pregnant cause i couldn't keep anything down at all. but since you know you are pregnant start taking a prenatal viatmin. i would recommend on that has extra i think it's b6. that is supposed to be linked with morning sickness. it can help reduce the effect a little bit. i am taking a prenatal that is made by one source it's in a pink bottle and i got it at walmart. i specifically picked it because the b6 is like 800%. and i think it has made a difference. there was a night that i forgot to take it and i felt awful the next day. just look at the labels when you go to pick out a viatmin and pick what you feel you need the most of. it's such an exciting time! and congradulations!

Hi Jenny,

Congratulations!!! I saw my OB around 11 weeks. My OBs office likes to see the newbies between 7-11 weeks. I did IVF though, so I was being monitored by a reproductive endocrinologist from 3-11 weeks. Then I was "released" to my OB. The reason there is no rush to see the OB, is that there is nothing they can do for you this early. It's too early to hear the heartbeat and the only thing they can do (assuming you have no symptoms causing alarm) is give you a pregnancy test. Around 6-7 weeks is the best time for the first ultrasound, there will be a heartbeat by then. Many women don't get this ultrasound though. I don't know if it's standard for a "normal" pregnancy.

Since others were mentioning vitamins, I wanted to mention I took my ADEKs and a prenatal called Citrical Prenatal Rx, it was a prescription vitamin. Plus I took extra folic acid. But I was carrying twins. My vitamin levels were monitored to be sure I wasn't overdosing (Vit A overdose is not good for baby, as I'm sure no overdose is good for baby) But because of my malabsorption, I was able to safely take both the ADEK and prenatal.

Good luck and Congrats!

Thanks so much for the advice everyone! My pft's are borderline, FEV1 around 50%, so I think I would be more comfortable with a high risk doc just in case. I have been taking pre natal vitamins the whole time we were TTC, so I should be good there! My doctor actually also had me do Tobi and then have my blood drawn to see if she felt safe telling me to do it while pregnant (Tobi is huge for me, it works wonders), and the levels came back extremely safe. But when I e-mailed her today to let her know I was pregnant, she did say to quit doing the Tobi at least until I can talk to the OB and get their opinion on it too. If I can get away with not taking it, I'd rather do that and play it safe.

I'm glad to hear that HPTs are so accurate! I wasn't sure if it was common for women to "make sure" at the doctor or not. I took 5 tests from 3 different brands so I'm pretty sure . Thanks again! I'm sure I'll be on more with lots of questions.
