Big Nose Bleed-- on nighttime oxygen

I woke up this morning and felt all those lovely dry "boogies" in my nose from the night time oxygen. Yes, I stuck my finger up my nose like I normally to loosen them up (Yes, I am a nose picker).
All of a sudden I had a massive nose bleed. It started to pour out my nose into my hand. I stuffed tissue up my nose and put pressure on it. In about 10 minutes it was done dripping. Now my nose hurts.
What did I do?? I was just trying to remove the "snot film" from inside my nose. (Yes, I wash my hands super well afterward) <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I have nicked the inside of my nose with my fingernail before and only a tiny bleed... just noticable after flusing nose. This time it was pretty massive (enough to need my hand to catch it).
Does this need checked out by a doc or will this heal on its own??
I know I need to get some KY jelly to put up my nose to ease the dryness.

Probably what you thought was a dried booger was, in fact, a scab (or attached to a scab) and you picked it loose. When I am feeling I am having a junky sinus morning, I spray a hydrogel up my nose, wait about 10 minutes and then blow. Works like a charm and if I do have areas of bleeding it usually doesn't result in a full on nosebleed.

I had nose bleeds all the time from oxygen. I would get a gunky nose and blow it and the floodgates would open. It could happen without feeling junky too. My nose just got so dry. For a while I used a gel called cann ease from my oxygen supplier and it really helped but as my liters increased it wasnt helpful anymore and I had to start wearing an oxygen mask at night so it wasnt blowing straight up my nose and I dont get the nose bleeds anymore. I still use the cannula during the day but dont use the constant flow setting with it and I do fine.

I live in Denver and non oxygen users finger out dry boogers. It is high, dry and sunny, adding oxygen is hell. KY isn't a first choice. We all have vascular rich noses fed by some big arteries and veins. I buy nasal cream from a compounding pharmacy. Yes they expect rich dry oxygen so don't fear a fire. I have used it for decades. Nose bleeds resembling a broken hose started after a sinus surgery that left scars right where you don't need 'em. The normal ER nose bleed treatment is an acid cautery. Your ENT can do this in vulnerable areas as prophylaxis. If anybody is interested in my nose cream, I will check with the pharmacy and put the results in this forum.
