Hi all,
I was wondering if others have ever had trouble with oral contraception. This is 2nd brand of pill in 3 yrs, and I am having trouble with break through bleeding. I would appreciate any feedback on the subject.

I am on orthotricyclin also. I don't have any trouble with break theough bleeding though. You should probbaly talk to your gyn about it, just to make sure everything is ok.

Break through bleeding is bleeding when you are not mensturating and is totally normal, even for women without CF on birth control. Somtimes it will go away with time, you really just have to try different kinds of bc and see what you like. There are SO MANY options!

I use the Depo Provera shot and I LOVE IT!!! I get one shot every three months, and it costs about the same as a 3 months supply of pills. Orals are totally ok for CFers, the only thing is if you are on antibiotics, they have a greater chance of interacting in your stomach. If you are unsure about drug interactions, ask your pharmacist.

I had a lot of breakthrough bleeding when I was on Levlen ED, which is a low-dose pill.

I am now on a higher dosage pill which I haven't had any problems with. Some other girls with CF I've talked to have also had success with high-dose pills, so if you're not already on one, maybe mention that to your doctor.

Debbie,
constant and continual break through bleeding when you aren't mensturating is not normal.

To the origional posterL
It can be a sign that #1 the BC is not working for your hormones, so you may need to try something that is a little bit stronger and in some cases, something not so strong with not so many hormones will help. It can be a sign of infection (if it determined it isn't related to your BC pills) or sometimes a sign of endometreosis. Either way, I suggest you talk to your gynocologist about it. Have them run some tests on your hormone levels to see where you are at right now and from that sometimes they can tell if they need to go heavier or lighter on the BC pills. But look into it, it could cause problems now that can effect fertility in the future.

Hey Mary,

I had the same problem a while ago, and I talked to my gyn, and she put me on a higher dose, and I haven't had any problems since. I'm on Ortho Novum 1/35 and I love it. Def talk to your gyn though.

On the other hand, I've also had it happen during or after sexual activity, and I talked to my gyn, and she said something along the lines of the mucus down there breaking off and causing bleeding...don't quote me on that though. I don't know which bleeding you are having...whether it is just at random or after sexual activity, but definitely talk to your dr. And good luck!

Hi Mary,
I just went back on "ortho- tri- cycline lo", due to continual hemoptysis problems. I remember when i was first on it, the only time i had any heavy spotting was when i finished the cycle of pills and decided to start a new cycle right away, without taking the placebo pills. Other than that it seemed fine.
