Bleeding in lungs & periods coincide

Last year i had a strange problem from sept-dec.Whenever i had bleeding
in my lungs i would have my periods also and i would bleed for some
5-6 days and then after some ten days my lungs would bleed again and i would have my periods again irrespective of the date.This went on for for four months and when i went to a gynaec she told me i had no problem in my uterus but she didn't say why these things coincided.
Then after dec. i had periods on the separate date and lungs bleed
like normal and i forgot about it.

I had this last year & went to the GYN. He said everything looks fine, but wanted me to do a "bleed chart" which basically is a written journal of how long, how heavy or light etc. I originally thought it was because I use an IUD then I realize my weight had changed dramtically during this time. I am not 100% to normal, but once my health improved my cycle became more regular. I still tend to be more prone to the hemoptysis of the lungs right before my period. My CF doctors (male & female over the years) basically just said its hormonal. That much I realized, but it doesnt get out of hand so I didnt push the issue. My regular GYN was really worthless because at the time it was all based around the CF. As a matter of fact the GYN asked if I was anarexic (sp?) because its unusual to lose so much weight that quickly. I said not for me if I am sick!

There was an article in the CF Roundtable a couple of years ago that addressed this. You can go to <A href="http://www.cfroundtable.com">www.cfroundtable.com</A> and look at the list of back issues. It was the issue with the focus topic "Women Only or Men Only Issues". If you can look that up, there might be something that can help.

i have been noticing for years that my hemoptysis seems to stem from my cycle. i will usually experience it anywhere from the time of ovulation thru the period and then it would taper off. Both times i had to have an embolization was just days before my period began. I went on oral birth control for a while to help with the problem and it did help but it did not eliminate it. It just changed the timing of the hemoptysis. I would then have problems with it after my period. I finally found something that does help stop hemoptysis from happening. Its called L-Lysine. I take 3,500 to 4,000 per day (spaced out thru the day). It made a HUGE difference for me. I am now off of the oral birth control and relying on just the L-Lysine .

I don't think many GYN know about this ...

I tried to get some info about this.....so far what I understood it is called :Catamenial hemoptysis


Catamenial hemoptysis is menstrual-related hemoptysis. It is also known as pulmonary endometriosis. Endometriosis is the growth and development of cells outside of the uterus that normally grow only inside the uterus  the same cells that are shed monthly during menstruation. Researchers do not know how or why endometriosis occurs. Usually the abnormal cell growth occurs in other areas of the reproductive tract, but sometimes it occurs in the liver, lung, and even the brain. Endometriosis in the lungs results in catamenial hemoptysis. It is very rare and usually treated hormonally.

And catamenial hemoptysis can be treated succesfully with danazol.
