Blockage in left nostril

Yep, it's probably a polyp. Before I had my sinus surgery 7 years ago I had a polyp which nearly reached the opening of my nostril! Pretty gross!

The sinus surgery involves them going in and removing the polyps. It's usually a day surgery kind of thing if there are no complications. Some people have better experiences than others and in general, you'll need painkillers for around a week afterwards and at least a few days to a week rest.

Another option besides surgery is treatment using a steroid nose spray and saline nasal rinces. This can help with inflammation and make the polyps slightly smaller and less prone to infection.

The surgery is usually an in and out sorta thing....... takes about an hour (my last one took 2 hours because of the deviated septum) and then you stay in recovery until you wake up... then they send you home. When I have it done they put in this dissolvable packing and a piece of gauze under the nostrils because your nose is bleeding from the surgery... I'm not going to lie, you're in a lot of pain for about a week after the surgery. My brother has CF and my other friends with CF all say the same thing; it is a pretty crappy week after the surgery but after a week or so you WILL feel soooooooooo much better and be able to breathe again through both nostrils!

Usually after the surgery, they have you do something called a "sinus rinse" or sinus wash.... it's pretty much like a nebulizer treatment for the nose - a gentle mist goes up the nostrils and u blow out all the junk that's in there from the surgery and that loosened up.

Also, make sure you get some pain killers if you need - your head and nose will be hurting afterwards and u will want some relief!!!
