Hi,

I had a big issue with this too - and most often when I lie flat. I was told there is something about the pressure in your lungs when you lie flat that can cause that.

I take Vitamin K & L-Lysine (as recommended by Diane!). I know you said not to mention Vitamin K... just letting you know my regimine!

I talked to my Doctors about this yesterday. I would imagine that unless you have a blood clotting problem, taking additional blood clotters could be a bad thing. Your hemoptosis is probably due to irritation in your lungs and not an inability to clot...

I eat food high in vitamin K (lots of them). I also eat food high in iron. I steer away from food that deplete the vitamin K in our bodies-- yes, there are everyday foods that suck the vitamin K (clotting ability out of our bodies).

I haven't tried the L-Lysine yet... that is my next plan of attack!!

I was on vitamin K for quite a while and it didn't seem to work on me either. The doctors just got to where they didn't worry about it unless I needed surgery. If my counts were low (which they normally were) when I needed surgery, they would give me so many units of Fresh Frozen Plasma (a blood product to thicken the blood).

My "thin" blood was not the reason that I was always coughing up blood.....it was due to the damage (scar tissues, infections, holes, etc.) in my lungs.

I don't really know what to suggest for you because the vitamin K and FFP is all my doctor ever did for me.
