Has anyone heard of or needed the blood from an umbelica cord for any CF reason.
We adopted our son Sam who has CF and his birth mother just wrote to me and offered the blood when she has her child in 2 months. I have never heard of this, but I am seeking out answers so I appreciate any knowledge on this.

I did look into it when I had my last two kids. As far as I found, there is no need for the blood in regards to CF. We did go ahead and bank my infant's cord blood. Here is a link below that shows a list of current treatable diseases.

They are also doing studies on other diseases like diabetes. I was disappointed to learn that there are questions about whether the cord blood is good after 12 yrs or so. They just don't know yet.

When my daughter (no cf) was born, we did not bank her blood, however we did have her cord blood tested for Andrew's mutations. It was convenient and done right there in the delivery room. We had our answer within two weeks...just a carrier!
