Blood sugar question

So I went and had a full blood count done yesterday at the cf clinic. I hadn't had anything to eat at all (wasn't expecting blood sugar scrutiny though), BUT I drank a large arizona sweet iced tea, and chewed down some bubbilicious sour cherry burst gums. So needless to say, there was a ton of sugar in those two. Anyway, my bloodwork came back, and the doc said everything looked fine. I read the results myself while bored and between docs, and it said my blood glucose level was 150. It showed the normal level range was (if I remember right, but I know it was 50 points past normal) 50-100. I asked them about it, and they blamed the sweet tea. Well a 50 point increase from the max normal level of 100 seems like a huge bump just due to a sugary drink and some gum on an empty stomache.

I have staved off diabetes for almost 37 years now, and I would probably jump off a bridge if I became diabetic on top of my other crap I deal with...Should I be concerned? Or do you think those numbers could indeed be explained by a sugary drink and gum? BTW I don't have any other diabetic symptoms that I am aware of.

Considering you were not fasting for your test, you can't really tell by those numbers. Fasting means no eating or drinking, no gum, no candy, no nothing. Yes 100 is the upper "limit" for a normal FASTING blood sugar test, but your results are skewed because you took carbohydrates into your system before the test. Best thing to do is to have the test ran again, and actually fast before it. Then you will really know if you need to worry.

I am more concerned about your comment about jumping off a bridge, even if you were just kidding around. Not very enlightening for those who already have CF and CFRD who read your post.

Yeah they have me taking that again for my next visit. But regarding jumping off a bridge...My load of care for just CF is enough, the last thing I want is more load with CFRD. I absolutely hate and refuse to drink/eat artificial sweeteners. I would generally be doomed with CFRD. If it was just a simple aspect of injecting once a day that wouldnt be a big deal, but its much more than that.
