Blood sugar question

I don't know what other people have posted in response. I would keep an eye on that but my endocrine doctor has told me that even people without diabetes can have their bloodsugar spike some after having a lot of sugar. What you have to look at is if it goes higher than that and it happens all the time. I don't think you doctor would say everything was okay if they didn't believe that to be so. If you bloodsugar becomes 150 or higher everytime they do lab work then they might do some testing to see if you are becoming diabetic. I wouldn't worry yet. It may have just been that it went up a little and more than likely went back down to normal. Hope that helps. Let me know if anything else come out of this.

After my transplant I became diabetic. I was told to take a long lasting insuling once a day and insulin with each meal (carb counting). The reading of 150 is considered to be in the normal range... I was told the normal range is 90-150.

It is very normal for sugar levels to reach 150 after having gum and iced tea even if you had nothing else to eat. In fact while I was in the hospital and taking my shots and doing all the right things I ate a piece of bubble gum not thinking anything of it (dry mouth) and my sugar levels shot to over 250.

The key is that your levels reduce as you process the food/sugar. If there was a problem your level would have likely been higher.

I would not worry about it too much but if you are concerned I would suggest discussing it with your doc and also see what the next results show.

If at some point down the road you do end up being diabetic it is fairly easy to manage and you can still eat normal things (soda, candy bars, etc) they just suggest you dont overdo it (at least my clinic does).

Best of luck to ya.
