Bordetella bronchiseptica

I was wondering if anyone has ever cultured bordetella bronchiseptica? My son did recently and his CF doctor was very surprised. He said it was the first time he has ever seen that, in humans that is. It's usually known as "kennel cough" in dogs.

Years ago I'd read something similar. May have been on healthboards.

It's my understanding that Bordatella is one of those complex viruses -- like RSV and humans --- there's a vaccine available (for dogs), but it doesn't necessarily cover everything. I know our dogs have always been vaccinated for it because we board them at the kennel, but years ago before DS one of our dogs got it despite getting the shot.

Wow, I didn't realize Bortadella was transferable to humans. I work in an animal field & am around it all the time & have never cultured it. I know with dogs it is a 2 week dose of Doxycycline & they No longer have symptoms. Is your doctor planning to treat it?

I cultured Bordatella about a year ago, caused no real symptoms. I was using TOBI at the time and had no additional antibiotics added. I have never cultured for it again. Also kind of stumped the doc...I have no dogs, I do have cats. I talked to my vet who confirmed cats can also carry Bordatella, we talked about vaccinating them or even culturing them, but we never had to go that route. I hope your son is doing well.
