Vincent's CF center has started doing a program for kids called Bravery Hearts, on a voluntary basis, for children w/ life threatening illnesses. They gave us a really colorful string, with beads of his initials. Whenever we go to clinic, or to the hospital, etc., the social worker gives him (me) a certain bead to add to the necklace. Today we got the blue one, for a clinic visit. There's one for swallowed first pill, or for doing PFT's, getting a picc, etc. It says, "The collection of beads represents the child's unique and personal journey throughout treatment". I just thought it was a cute idea.

I really liked the idea too. I said of course we want to do it! But it does seem like something anyone could do pretty cheaply, just a pretty string or ribbon and some beads. We got a list with all the things that earn you a bead, plus what bead you get for each thing, but I'm sure you could just let the child pick whatever one they want too. I think there was a website on the pamphlet, I'll go check... yup, braveryhearts.com

we don't have that at our clinic but instead the kids sign a contract with the social worker that they will do their meds when they are suppose to and without complaining, the parents keep track on paper for 3 months, then they give it to the social worker, the child then gets 10.00 bucks. so they get 40.00 a year for complying with the program
