Breaking out in hives

I had a severe reaction to Bactrim that didn't start until after I had been on it for a couple weeks for a sinus infection. It started with a mild rash and then eventually progressed to anaphylaxis & a sjs rash that took weeks to completely heal. Since her dose was recently doubled and allergic reactions can develop at any time I wouldn't rule out a drug reaction. If her symptoms do not completely resolve very soon- especially if she develops any redness or swelling around any areas of her face, mucous membranes or any fever- I'd call the dr. Better to be safe!!

Thought i'ld update this. Maggie still is getting the hives. I made an appointment with the doc tomorrow; could't fit us in today. Last eve, she broke out again on her face! Her eyelids, cheeks, near her neck as well as random spots over her body. Again Benadryl took care of it. It seems like running around getting too hot or too cold makes it worse. I went to school with her today on a field trip, it was hot(relatively) and she started to get them on her hands and arms after walking and playing outside. SO , I told the teacher I was taking her home to see the doctor. While she is resting they seem to settle down. I spoke with the CF nurse and she doubted it was the Bactrim..Ayway, we have an appointment for tomorrow but they probably won't be there for the appointment which is usually the case. Last eve, was scary, Maggie's face looked so wierd.. I am really on edge now adnd have no clue what it could be. The office nurse said some viruses can cause hives.

Hi:
A couple of years ago my daughter reacted with hives to Bactrim on the last day of her two week dose. It would be easy to see if it is the Bactrim (with doctors approval) stop the bactrim and see if the hives go away. You can develop an allergic reaction to a drug even if you had not had one before. Hope you get it figured out. Amy

Not sure if this will help you or not. My DD has a long history of hives. It is her autoimmune response for a chronic illness (CF) Her body goes into attack mod but does not stop
when the infection has passed. Not saying this is what is going on when your child. When only do benadryl as needed. I can be talking to her and the hives will just flare up. We are so use to it now that we don't give them a second thought unless they keep coming within hours, then we know for sure she is getting sick. We only did one ER run with them and that
was while in clinic with her CF doctor. It was a really bad case and she was really sick then.

Hope you find out what is causing them.
