yesterday at my dr. the rt came in and told me to take a deep breath hold it for a few seconds, take another without letting the first one out, then take another until you can't do it any more. eventually you let out a hard cough.

i've been doing it all day at work.

i told my fiance to do it last night and he tried, but then he let his breath out because he said he was going to cough and i told him that was the whole point <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

The best thing to do, in my opinion, would be to do this (take breaths until you literally can't hold anymore), and then exhale the air really hard and fast until you've pushed ever bit of air out.

What you're basically doing here is forcing air past the secretions in your lungs and then exhaling the air really quickly in hopes of dislodging/moving the mucous outwards towards your larger airways. You may need to do this multiple times before you dislodge enough to cough it up.

I started doing this lately (while doing my Vest routine) and WOW what an improvement.
