Happy Thursday!!

I am scheduled for a brochoscopy next week! I asked the dr for it and he agreed. I have been sick for the past year, the dr thinks it is mostly from the aspergillus, but I am not completely sure!! Two weeks ago, they started me in Cayston and I feel great! Yesterday talking to my dr told him I felt great on Cayston. He said we don't need to do the bronch if you feel good. I was surprised by this!!

For the past year, I was on and off antibiotics. As soon as I would get off I would get sick!! Now I am not sure what to do?!?! Should I insist or just wait until next time I am sick?

Your thoughts would be great!!

One more detail, i just was on caspofungin for 6 mnths for the APBA. It didn't work and my IGE and Aspergillus levels increased. The dr mentioned doing a year of caspfungin. I am thinking if 6 mnts did nothing why try a year if were not sure what is in my lungs. I am allergic to all other antifungals

i'm curious about this too! I haven't requested a bronchoscopy but it's next on my list, along with a sinus ct (another poster said their fever was from Aspergillus in their sinuses)...

What symptoms are you having (I assume increased SOB, increased sputum, etc)? I have been running a low grade fever for over 6 months now and nothings has helped. along with feeling crappy lung wise also. I have ABPA that is controlled (somewhat) by prednisone. I tried itraconazole but had an episode of rhabdomyalsis so they stopped it (i think it was the fosamax tho).

Keep me posted on what happens and what you find out. Goodluck!

My daughter is scheduled for broncoscopy next month and i was wondering what all can be learned from it. the doctor mentioned a few tests, but she had a really tough time years ago with anesthesia so i am interested in the biggest bang for buck so to speak. any info is appreciated.

Pepsi, I'd probably go for it. If you can tolerate the anesthesia; it can't hurt and it will give you 1) a confirmed answer as to what is growing/causing issues and 2) let the Dr get a visual look at the condition of the lung tissue.

Becca's mom, one of the biggest advantages of a bronch in a child is that you can get a good, deep culture to confirm what is growing and how much. In addition, it allows the Dr to visualize the lung tissue and mucous levels/color/consistency/etc. It's kinda the difference between looking at a house from the curb and going inside. Most of the time you only get to see outside and guess what is inside by watching who/what goes in/out. However, the only way to really know what is inside is to go look. Help that makes sense.

I have had 2 bronchs a few years ago. They do not hurt at all, I just got sick when I woke up I can't handle the anesthia very well. But as far as procedure goes it's pretty simple (on docs end) they get to get all the junk out of your lungs.
