I had an embolization done about two years ago. My hemoptysis was pretty frequent, and I was always doing things to prevent them. I knew all my triggers, but it was starting to make me crazy trying to avoid all of them. What finally convinced me was every night, I'd have to sit up for five or ten minutes in bed before lying down, because lying down too fast was one of my triggers. When I would lie down, sometimes I would start to panic, thinking I was going to bleed. It was really messing with my head. It became a quality of life issue.
So, I had the embolization done. I don't remember it affecting my lung function. I was hospitalized before the operation to get me feeling better, I had it done, and then went on a cruise to the Caribbean a week later <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> The risks sound scary, but it was worth it for me, because while the bleeds didn't stop completely, they're a LOT less frequent, and I don't panic anymore. The operation itself was boring, as I was relaxed, but not asleep. They kept me awake to ask me questions during to make sure things were going smoothly. I just wanted to nap, haha.
If the bleeds started happening again with that kind of frequency, I would definitely have it done again. I'm not scared all the time, and I feel not having blood in my lungs so often helps me to be healthier.
