Bronchial Dilators pre HTS or TOBI

My daughter who is 5 uses albuterol 3 times a day. We would do an albuterol treatment before her VEST of CPT to open her airways. Now she is on HTS and we do the albuterol first then the HTS. IF we didn't do the albuterol first she would cough like crazy from the HTS. I think it's recommended to do the albuterol first wait 15 min then HTS but we rarely wait just not enough time in the day. Also, I read it's good to do the HTS while doing the VEST but my daughter hates that cause it makes her cough, so we rarely do that as well. Certainly looses stuff out though.

Duo neb while vesting, followed by pulmozyme or tobi. We do tobi during (after)the early a.m. and early evening vest/cpt treatment. Pulmozyme is done during the before bed/late night treatment.

so in a CFer's lungs the cilia (tiny little hairs that beat repeatedly back in forth to remove foreign material in the lungs) are paralyzed.

bronchodilaters help stimulate the cilia to beat and this facilitates moving the mucus out of the lungs. it also dilates the airways which can be pretty constricted due to all of the inflammation that is typical in a CFer's lungs.

so doing a bronchodilater first before the vest, HTS or antibiotics makes sense because it creates an environment that is conducive to these meds working better <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

i would smack his doctor next time i saw him if i were you.....
