Tessalon seems to be doing the trick now that it has settled some. Maybe it's the combination with the otc cough medicine the dr recommended and more vigilant neb treatments, but it's doing the trick. Narcotic cough meds is the last road I want to go down right now, lol.

I to am having The kind of pain you are describing,Coughing and my lung pain is worse than any other and I have had alot of collasped lungs,I have coughed up Blood small streaks for five days and I am no longer seeing blood in my sputum.I am on Bactrim and Tobi and broke down for the pain meds I have pain in the front of my lung to the back crazy pain.I hope you feel better soon,Thanks for posting

I hope you feel better soon too. The chest pain can be unbearable at times, especially when the nebs and CPT just don't seem to be helping. I just got off the pain meds for my pancreas after being on them for 4 years, withdrawals were hell. I'd hate to go down that road again before I absolutely have to, I know that day will come, but hopefully I have awhile. I hope the meds are helping you feel better until your lungs can clear up, being sick is no fun at all. Keep your chin up.

Yes I know that comment well, apparently as long as we look healthy the pain we are in and the problems we face everyday don't matter according to them. I've had that problem my whole life, with teachers at school especially. If I'd ask to go to the nurses office they'd tell me I looked fine lol. Thankfully I graduated though it wasn't easy. I'm glad I've found these forums, it really does help to talk to one another. I too break the pills in half or more when I have to take them bc one day they won't work at all, and with my luck that's when I'll really need them. Hang in there!

An alternative to narcotics for pain is toradol (ketorolac). It's a very strong NSAID and it will kick a fever in a hurry. It is hard on your kidneys, though. 5 days is usually the maximum amount of time you can be on it consecutively. Ask you doc about it, I'm pretty sure it still comes in tablet form (it's commonly given IV/IM).

Hmm, I'll have to check it out. Glad there's an alternative. Will they let you take it if you're diabetic because of the kidney problems?
