I took my daughter to clinic yesterday and her doc said she could do the bronchitol trial here in Australia, though she is trialling pulmozyme first. I was wondering if there is anyone who is participating in this trial (any country) as I would like more information on it, side effects ect....

thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

"Phase II studies show Bronchitol significantly improves lung function and wellbeing in patients with cystic fibrosis. We look forward to working with the FDA on introducing Bronchitol to the U.S. market as rapidly as possible."

"Pharmaxis is currently conducting Phase III and II clinical trials of Bronchitol in cystic fibrosis patients at sites in Europe, Canada, Argentina and Australia.

Pharmaxis is developing Bronchitol as a treatment to improve mucus clearance in the lungs of patients with cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. Bronchitol is a patented, inhalable dry powder formulation of mannitol administered by a hand-held, pocket sized device. "

Hi mum2kj,

I too am from Australia, and haven't heard of this trial as yet. We go to clinic in 2wks so i will ask.
I'm thinking, if it is happening over hear and they haven't mentioned it to me its probably because Olivia is not on any breathing treatments, as she hasn't had any lung issues as yet. thank god. I hope it stays that way for a long while yet.

Although, we are participating in 2 other trials that i think our hosp is doing on their own accord. they are just trialing bronchoscopies (sp) and like to do them once a year on chn from birth to 5 yrs of age.
They are finding it to be a postive outcome, but won't say too much until results are out.

They are also doing another study that we have participated in, and that's where they do the ph probe and lung function in 0-5 yr olds. Again its still just a study and we have no results or information as yet.

Its promising, so they say. Isn't everything theses day's, i don't know what to think anymore. Sorry just rambling.........

Anyway, i think its a good idea that we get involved it whatever trials we can if we want medicine to progress and lives to be extended.<img src="">

Hi eli and mum2kj.

Where abouts do you two live (if you dont mind me asking...you dont have to say if you dont want!!)? I live in Newcastle in NSW.

The trials arent carried out in every centre...I havent heard anything a bout this one either. Apparently the AIR (Aztremonen or however you spell it!!) is being conducted here in the major centres ie. Sydney Westmead I have just discovered, but we dont have it here. I am going to ask about these studies on Tuesday at the clinic. I think that the studies require a lot of work and are only held in specific locations.

Hi eli,

I was wondering why kj has never had a brochoscopy. I didn't know it was a trial.

If she goes on the trial (if pulmozyme doesn't work) I will let you know how it goes.

I think this trial is in phase 2 or 3, I'm thinking 3. So hopefully they have worked out any bugs <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi Jo,

I live in Warrnambool, Victoria. Kj goes to the Royal Childrens in Melbourne.

I'll have to ask the doc about what the air trial is. I havn't heard of that before.

Would be good to have the docs tell us what studies are going about!!

This is the first time we have ever been told about a drug trial.

Maybe you could let us know what your doc says about AIR <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
