My son Patrick is scheduled for a bronchoscopy w/ bronchoalveolar lavage, and brushing @ childerens hospital in Dallas Thursday.

The Dr wants to rule out immotile ciliary syndrome, while we are waiting for genetic tests about CF.
Has anyone else had this done?

Yes, my son has had this done quite a few times. He will be put to sleep, so it's not very traumatic. My son doesn't mind getting it done at all. Your son may cough a lot in the hours after the bronch. Other than that, there's just the yucky feeling of coming out of anesthesia.

My daughter had one at 18 months of age. The only bad part was the hour afterwards because of the anesthesia, otherwise it went very smoothly.

If your son is nervous, contact child life at your hospital, they are very good at giving age appropriate tours and explanations.

My son and daughter have both had a bronch w/ lavage, I'm not sure about the brushing though. They were both around 3 months old. They sounded pretty junky afterwards and needed some blow-by oxygen for a couple of hours, and had some coughing going on.
