bruising on ankles and toes

Hey there! My husband has CF and was just diagnosed last May. He is 26 years old. We are still becoming familiar with the disease and the symptoms. I haven't seen anything where bruising occurs and am a little worried this might be a bigger problem. He has huge bruises on both ankles and between all 10 toes and on all his knuckles. Has anyone ever experienced this? I'm calling the doctor, but they don't open until Tuesday. Please let me know if any of you have experienced this and if so, what in the world is causing it. Thanks!

Is he on any antibiotic right now? That sounds more like a drug side effect than a typical symptom.

If he happens to be hitting those areas alot, the bruises could be from low Vitamin K. CFers dont absorb that well & its needed for clotting.

Clinics should be doing vitamin levels & often we need a seperate prescription for Vitamin K.

Another thought if he is hitting these areas a lot is that he might have sugar issues. Has he been tested for CFRD (cf related diabetes)?

There could also be a ton of other reasons, but these are 2 that it could be & are directly related to CF.

HI. I am an adult (26) with CF as well and I experience bruising and swelling of my ankles and feet every time I start to get an infection. My doctor called it CF related Vasculitis. The only thing they usually do for me, besides treating the lung infection itself, is prescribe me prednisone for the swelling. USually treating the infection makes it disappear on its own. The worst part is how progressively painful it gets...seriously, it is a burning, on fire like sensation that sucks! That man needs waited on hand and foot, haha, not what you wanted to hear I know. Good luck.
