Brushing Teeth At School????

My 5 year old son started school last week (5 year old kindergarten). Well his teacher bought them all little toothbrushes and covers. She wrote their names on the brushes and the covers. But I think once they are done brushing their teeth and putting the covers back on they go back into a plastic box with a lid. I am sure they are still wet when put back in the box. I am concerned that his toothbrush at school could make him sick. Am I being overly dramatic or do you agree that it is a bad idea?

By the way....I had orginally planned to homeschool but at the last minute decided to give school a try. All of my kids go to a fairly small private school. There are 15 kids in my 5 year olds class.

Wow- I would feel uncomfortable with this too. The brushing the teeth is a great idea, but it sounds pretty risky for exchanging of germs at school. Maybe they could put his toothbrush by itself somewhere or you could bring in a special case for his brush.

I think that going to publis/private school is better than homeschooling because your child needs that social interaction, but that is just my opinion. My son has had a hard time with his cf and I still think he is better in public school because he is such a people person.

That is ridiculous. Not even families are supposed to keep their toothbrushes together, let alone a room full of 20 children? Is this a school policy, or the teacher's idea? I can't imagine any school district approving of this. I would go straight to the office on this one, not only for your child's sake, but the health of all of the children in that room. Think about it...even if the toothbrushes were kept away from the others, you have a group of kids spitting into the same sink every day. 5 year olds? No Way!!! This is not a CF issue, it's an everyone issue. Gross!

teaching the kids to brush thier teeth at school is an interesting idea, i agree with the others that each child's toothbrush shouldn't be kept together, does each student have a cubby or a locker of any sort? having the students keep them there could cut down on the bacteria issue and work on teaching responsiblity and being able to keep up with something, and if they lose it, it was a 2 dollar toothbrush. idk much about 5 year olds, is getting them to do that age appropriate?
The spitting into the same sink thing is a concern but i think as long as they disinfect that sink every day it would be ok, its not much different than the water fountain and while yes, i won't drink out of one, but people manage to not get sick off them
