i guess its contagious cause all the doctors and nurses masked up before coming into my room...

the doctor said its no big deal and sent me home today... but i looked it up online and it sounds really bad

has anyone ever heard of this or had it?

are u sure its not burkholderia pseudomonas u are referring to? i haven't heard of burkholderia pseudomallei.
i'll look it up.
i'm sure you'll get replies to this. to answer your question, in general with bugs that u culture, there are all different strains of each one. there are milder strains and severe ones. i have a mild strain of burkholderia cepacia that i have had for 12 years. there are strains of it though that you can get and die very soon after culturing them.
if your doctor told you that your strain is mild and they don't seem concerned about it, i'd not worry too much. you must have a mild strain of whatever this is. they have to mask and gown up when in your room bc it protocol.

Weird, I've never heard of that and wiki says it's not common around here (in the US).

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burkholderia_pseudomallei">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burkholderia_pseudomallei</a> but you probably already looked it up.

I was just posting to clarify that pseudomonas is "pseudomonas aeruginosa" and is completely different from burkholderia cepacia. Hopefully your bug isn't bad, and if your doc said not to worry about it then it should be ok. I'm curious to see if anyone else here has it though since it seems kinda rare.

Did you visit Australia or Thailand recently? Or perhaps you live there? Here is a cf related article about that bacteria.
