buying your saline

OK, this sounds like a word problem...

If you need to mix 3ml of 10% saline and 2ml of 3% saline and use 4ml...
WHY do they send HUGE 15ml vials to use only once? We get ours from the CF pharmacy, does anyone get smaller vials. It seems like such a waste.

I have been wondering that too. I recieved 15ml vials. I have been just squeezing out the amount for one treatment and then putting the vial back in the box and then using more for my next treatment, etc, though I have been mixing 10% with normal saline to get about 7%. Anyway, one vial last 2 days. I don't like the idea of doing that, but it does not seem that bad to me either. Is this risky?

i just use my vials until they are empty, usually within a couple days if i keep on schedule. it's just salt water so i don't think there is really anything wrong with it being left open for 48-72 hours.

I keep using the vials too. I put them in a Ziploc bag until my next treatment. I'm sure there's some bacterial issue there, but I'm not just gonna trow them out. Anyway, they didn't tell me what to do with them, so I just figured what to do.

I asked the head therapist & the doctor about this. They both said its safe to put the open vials in a baggy & stick in the fridge until its used up. Unless for some reason you wont be using it right away it will be ok! It is a waste to put it in the size vials & then give "strict" instructions to throw out the rest. Please.....

It's safe to reuse the vials until they are gone, provided that you use them within 30 days of opening. That is the standard at most hospitals as well, so don't throw it away if you don't have to. It is a waste.

Does your pharmacy tell you to discard of it?? As long as you aren't putting the same needle in there as you just used to pull something else out with , there isn't a problem.

Speaking of the needles....I havent used syringes at all. I want to minimize the ones I have to dispose of so I have just been squeezing the vials. It took a few tries to get the right squeeze, but it works like a charm. Much quicker also!

Is anyone doing the 3 percent saline? or have you all moved on to the 7 percent? I am still at 3.. I tried 7 and I coughed so hard I got chest pain and needed to take nitrogylcerin.. dumb heart!!!!

I like the saline but I can't stand adding more treatment time to my schedule.. I think I am going to only do the saline on my OFF tobi months...

Guys I have been sharing needles with this dude Tyrone down the street, do you guys think there might be any potential dangers in this? Tyrone eats grapenuts every morning with 2% milk, and i've seen him run from the police many times so I think he's in shape, so I should be ok right?

BTW that response of mine wasn't a dig at Jane, I just thought the idea of sharing needles with a guy named Tyrone who runs from the cops and frequently eats grapenuts with 2% milk and asking if it was ok was funny.

I get saline on prescription for my daughter - 2.5 ml which is ideal cos there is no waste and we can use a fresh one each time.

The study was done using 7%, but I think doctors might adjust it according to age, not sure
