Was on nebulised fortum years ago.....
Can't remember if it worked well but it did make quite a mess. It sticks to everything and smells bad as a liquid so you can imagine what it will do to your walls, curtains etc. when you turn it into a fine mist!! Still though if you find it helps your lungs then it will be worth it.

The solution to this is to rig up some sort of exhaust hose, like the kind that came with the old DeVilbiss ultrasonic nebs. You just stuck one end out the window and, voila, no more smelly house, and no place for environmental PA to develop resistance to your antibiotics.

The problem is that I don't know where you can find such a hose today -- one that fits snuggly on the output end of your neb. Maybe someone who does know can post the information.

Hi Mary,
I honestly cant rememberwhat the dose was that i inhaled because i havent used it since i had to have a pulmonary embolization 3 and a half years ago. I had been on the inhaled fortaz and when i had a very large bleed i had to have my first embolization. Then about a month and a half later, i had another large bleed and had to have another embolization. I flatly refused to do any type of inhaled antibiotic for about a year afterwards for fear that since they can be irritating, i didnt want to risk it. I have since been on Tobi many times in the last few years and my doctor has mentioned my going back on inhaled fortaz, which i might bravely give it another shot. If i recall correctly it was mixed the same way i used to mix the tobi before it came premixed and also the same as colistin ( which doesnt do anything for me at all). Only problem is i cant remember the amount of water that was used.
Hopefully Caitlin reads this again and gives you the answer since she is currently on it. Sorry i couldnt be of more help.........

I just came off FOrtaz Cephtazdime IVs.. You are going to have a hard time convincing me that it is NOT CAT PEE..... I smelled terrible, just like you would expect someone to smell that rolled around in cat pee.. It was so strong, and it came out in my tears, sweat, and pee... I couldn't stand it. and being the type of person I am... when ever I was doing an IV.. at school, even at church.. I MADE everyone smell it... HA. I wanted them to know it was my medicine and not ME....

Unfortunatly or Fortunatly, what ever is in that cat pee, my kidneys do better with then a lot of the other drugs.

Inhaling it would be really hard for me, I give you a lot of credit.. I still gag over the pulmozyme just knowing that somewhere in the mix there is Chinese hamsters ovaries DNA.....ICKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

Love,

Soon to be Miss Nurse Jennifer......HA

Thanks guys, thats great help, currenlty i am mixing 3mls of water to 1gr of ceftazidime, it taste pretty yuck but seems to be working good and is a lot easier than taurolin to tolerate so im getting a break from the taurolin while on it. Nobody i know in Ireland has been on either of these two , well they have been on iv ceft but not neb, i never find the iv works for me, but the neb seems to be so far so good.

Thanks,

Mary
