C Diff question

With the holidays coming up and potential for people spreading germs and happiness, wondering about c diff and how contagious it is, precautions to take... There's a relative by marriage whose toddler supposedly has c diff; however, this individual tends to exaggerate. So if her child truly has c diff, I'm not only concerned about ds, but a couple elderly relatives in the household recovering from surgery, as well as the multitude of small children we'll be hosting for Thanksgiving dinner.

Supposedly the child does have c diff and this is the 2nd go around. Different meds this time. I'm not the only one concerned. Two cousins with toddlers just texted me and are concerned.

I would be concerned; especially since it is the 2nd time of getting it. The spores for C dif can be difficult to get rid of. Handwashing only with soap and water; Purell will not work.

Apparently the child will be on meds for 2 weeks. Then they'll run a stool sample, if still positive they won't come for Thanksgiving.

Yes it is very resistant and can live on surfaces for a while. Hand washing is extremely important and if the child uses a toilet then that should be taken into consideration.

The doctor just told them to wash hands well after changing diapers. Hopefully the new meds will do the trick
