Calling all diabetics...

This has happened to me, but lasts longer than a day. I agree it's soooo frustrating!

About 2 weeks out of the month I need to re-adjust my insulin levels because of hormones, stress, etc., you know all those quirky things that happen. Diabetes is a moving target that just won't cooperate!!! Good luck figuring it out.

It happens to me faithfully every month a few days before my period or the day of my period. On those days i have nothing but low sugar and i gotta admit i love it. I get to eat all my crap food that day <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
Its always possible what you are experiencing is hormonal, especially knowing that insulin is a hormone. Years ago they used to call what you are experiencing " the honeymoon phase" . The pancreas just starts kicking out normal levels of insulin for some unknown reason. About a week ago i had about 4 days of really high blood sugars after being on an iv for 2 weeks, but it has gone back to what it normally is. Chances are what we go thru with our diabetes is a combo of hormones and infection colliding together.

Thanks guys...I was beginning to think I was some kind of alien! Today they are still off, don't get me wrong..I am enjoying no needles but I know it will be short lived. Today my fasting was 68, usually I am in the 130's sometimes higher. Eating something like cake and ice cream sends them over 300 easily...I wonder what chomping on some Halloween candy will do to me today. It will be interesting to see. Now that I think about it, my half brother, who is Type I diabetes, had that honeymoon phase. There was one time for an entire month (early in his diagnosis), his sugars were great...he barely needed any insulin. Now he is really up there sometimes in the 600's range and has a hell of a time controlling them. When he was diagnosed a few years ago, his A1C was something like 15.
