If my little man keeps eating as much as he does, I don't know how we are going to afford the grocery bill as he gets older!!!!! LOL

We just started him on baby food a little over a month ago and he is eating two tubs of baby food plus 8oz of formula ALL at one feeding three times a day, plus 1-2 8 oz. bottles alone a day. We are in no way "forcing" food on him, but if I lay the spoon down or wipe his face before he is done, he will contest until given more. He just loves eating!

Do you have an aggressive little eater? How much does your little one chow down at a time?

Daily:
6 tubs of baby food (veg. & fruits) and 4-5 8oz. bottles daily!

Now, when my first was born, I did not know that she had CF (wasn't dx until she was 14 months old). I tried nursing her (only lasted about 2 weeks) but she ate non stop!! I swear I was exhausted. So we moved on to a bottle, and as a newborn she was easily taking in a large 8 ounce bottle of formula. I thought it was normal?! I had nothing to compare her to. Two of my best friends had babies within two weeks of me, and their babies only drank about 2-4 oz. at a sitting. I thought their babies were the abnormal ones And when we started solids, she would eat two large jars of food at a sitting (plus an 8 oz bottle), when my friends babies would eat maybe half of one large jar. Again, my child was normallol!! All the way up to being dx, she took a bottle every 3 hours or so around the clock (ped. said she was spoiled) Long story...I'm still a little bitter...

My second baby still ate large amounts from the get go-even with being on enzymes and ADEKS and prilosec. She still drank large amounts of formula as a newborn. And boy, the cost of that Pregistamil (I think it was called?) was just killing me with as much of it as she drank It's just as she grew, she wasn't taking the bottle as often as her older sister. It was actually gone the week of her 1st birthday, at her choice.

By the way, I do tease my girlfriends that I thought I had the normal baby when the subject of babies comes up

I've always been told that there are two types of CFers. The ones who eat anything that doesn't eat them first, and the ones you have to force feed. Just be glad that you don't have to fight him to eat.

Hi --

Keep in mind that there is a huge correlation between eating and how much his body is actually digesting the food. Check his stools for grease. If there is alot of grease it means most of his food is just running out of him. He may need an increase in enzymes and a brand change in enzymes. I would definitely talk to your doctor.

Mine are 10 & 13 and were just put on a steroid to increase their appetites. They eat at least four full meals a day plus snacks. Talk about my food bill.....it is crazy! Debra

When I was a baby, I used to wake up and scream in the middle of the night. My dad took me on drives. But when we got back, he'd take me out of the car, and I'd wake up and cry. He took me on a walk a mile up the road and back. When we got back, he put me in my crib, and I woke up and cried.

Finally after weeks, my parents went "Ugh, nothing works! Let's try this!" and they fed me a huge bottle of baby food (you know the Gerber bottles? I'd eat a #3 every night) and I fell right back asleep, full and happy. Every night thereafter, when I woke up screaming, they'd grab a #3 bottle, feed it to me, and I'd pass out right away.

I love that story, it always makes me chuckle.

Ry was the same as Emily. He'd get incredibly pissed off, they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him, fed him and voila!! happy baby!

You're VERY lucky that your CFer is the "eat it all" type. Ry was the same way, it's much easier.
