Oh my freaking gosh, I am sorry but this is really starting to get on my nerves.

Cutecurlz- Please understand that men with CF are NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT sterile and they CAN CAN CAN CAN CAN CAN CAN have children that are biologically theirs.

I am sure this sounds rude, although that isn't my intention but please bother to read at least one post before yours when you go to answer questions. The wrong information keeps getting passed on this particular subject and that is why people are so confused. If you look at the last few posts, 2 of them by me, you will see that the information you presented on this topic is GROSSLY INACCURATE and I believe you have been corrected before. PLEASE STOP passing the information that men with CF are sterile because they ARE NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In short, in case you don't want to go visiting other sites (though Julie's site is worth going to), men with CF have sperm. It's all there, just like normal guys. It just can't get out. The road from testicles to end of penis was never paved. That's the part that makes them "infertile." But through IVF, men with CF can have their own biological children. The sperm is there, it's just a matter of getting it out.

Cutecurlz I know that Julie already gave you the info as did Emily but did you read any of the other posts of men with CF actually having children? Such as my brother for one that now have twins and yes they are his. The one could be his twin from 27 years ago Please if you don't know something as fact don't state it as such.

Julie,
(Just a little embarrased, but...) thanks for the info. My wife still wishes for us to go to an infertility clinic (Just in case, it was suggested she be tested, too), and with the information you gave me, I can translate it to find out whether the medication would be effective or not. I could then find out from the doctor whether it's available in Japan, if Japanese Health Insurance will cover it, and if it's a prescription drug, he can administer it. There's a nationally known infertility clinic in Japan my wife would like to take me to. It won't be immediately, but some day soon, I'm sure.
However, just to find out if I am producing, would be something I'd really like to know. My ex-wife never went that far for me to be tested, so If I can actually produce, I can laugh in her face about it some day!

Sorry to embarass you . I would still recommend that you two go to an infertility clinic to do any of this work. You could probably do the labs at a regular family practice doctor, but if the labs were irregular a general practice doctor wouldn't know what to do about it. If it saves you money though, you could always go to a GP doctor and if everything is normal-great, if not, then you coul dproceed to the infertility doctor. Good luck and when you have success, I'd love to add your story to my page of successes.

Take care,

It's a male, and he's in about the 2% that CAN HAVE CHILDREN NATURALLY. The other 97-98% (percentages vary around the world) DO produce sperm but CANNOT create children naturally.

Most men are sterile in that they cannot have children naturally, however, most if not all can go through a process (invitrofertilization (sp?)). Its pretty successful, but very expensive.

Iwent back and read some of the other posts.

Julie, my understanding was that our vas deferens were blocked by thick secretions; not that we didnt have them? Is that wrong? I dont know why cutecurlz said 100% were sterile????????

Contrary to prior beliefs, the percentage of men that can't naturally have children have CBAVD, congenital Bilateral Absense of the Vas Defrens. It use to be believed that ment with CF had a blockage by mucus. Exploratory operations and procedures have completely proved otherwise. It is either there or not there. NOT blocked, THERE or NOT THERE.

You can visit my website, www.cysticfibrosismaleinfertility.com, it's a great place to start.

Julia, he needs to start by having a semen analysis done. Usually, a general practitioner/family doctor can order that easily. He needs to ejaculate into a specimine cup and take it into the laboratory within a certain amount of time (usually 20-30 minutes). Some labs/doctors require that patients acually do the ejaculation on site-not so fun but necessary because to long can damage the sample.

If the sperm sample result comes back with nothing, there is the answer-no children naturally. Although IVF is always an option.

If the sperm result comes back that there is sperm, they know what they need to do.

let me know if you have any other questions, division902@hotmail.com or cystic_fibrosis_male_infertility@yahoo.com
