Can somebody help me please?

Hi.. ive never been on any of these sights before... im 17, going on 18 soon, and my little brother who is 16 has CF. He has recently started drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes and marijuana... he has been hospitalised for this about 3 times in the last 4 months. i dont know what to do to help him. he sat down in my room with me the other night and asked me to help him write down "a will" ... just a list of things he owns and who he wants to have them. he has also in the last few weeks, hugged me alot, and keeps telling me he loves me no matter how far away he is.
im really scared, ive never seen him this emotional before.
please if you could help me understand more about how bad the smoking and drinking makes his condition i would be ever so grateful.

Besides the fact that his actions are harming him physically, it sounds like your brother is depressed.

Its not uncommon in teens or those with chronic illnesses so when you put the two together, it can get hard for someone.

You really need to share this info with someone that you feel comfortable doing so with. Parents, teachers, ministers, guidance counselors, his CF team.....someone. You dont want to assume that he is just talk on things!

Alcohol & drinking for anyone has its consequences. So now you throw someone who is possibly already having lung, liver, dehydration & other issues.....you throw in alcohol & smoking, which will enhance the health issues more,then its not a good combo.

I am really concerned for your whole family not just your brother. He is doing the same things my older brother 24 is doing. We both have cf and it is sad for me to watch him do further damage to himself because I know he could be as well as me if he stopped the drink and drugs.

If your brother happens to have cf related diabetes and liver disease like my brother then he is decreasing his life span even more. The way he is talking the most worrying thing of all... he needs to talk.
Your brother and mine are the same case. Desperate to be a big man like the rest of their friends and does not want to accept that they are not as strong as the rest. It's a cry for help and I hope it is answered soon <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

If your brother happens to have cf related diabetes and liver disease like my brother then he is decreasing his life span even more. The way he is talking the most worrying thing of all... he needs to talk.
Your brother and mine are the same case. Desperate to be a big man like the rest of their friends and does not want to accept that they are not as strong as the rest. It's a cry for help and I hope it is answered soon <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">
