I have been paying out of pocket for the pediasure. Insurance pays for the formula. Right now she gets pregestimil 27 cal at night for 12 hrs. Then they want her to do 3 bolus feeds during the day of 110 ml. So when we switch to Peptamin Jr we hope to not have her on tube feeds as much since its higher in calorie. They suggested if she is eating more table food and drinks at least 1 pediasure a day then we can cut feeds down. So i am hoping to add the leftovers to her at night.

there is a pancreatic enzyme called Viokase that is powder and mixes into any liquid you put into the feeding tube bag.....i mix it with my daughters formula, pour it into the bag and she is set for the nite!!

There are some Enzymes you can put in the G tube. If they are small enough. It depends on the size of the G- Tube.

And the liquid meds are so helpful to put through it. In the hospital when I am not there to make him take them, they do it that way. you can even take regular pills and crush them and dilute with water to put through the tube. If need be.

This was very helpful right before Garran's Tx because they make them drink all this Go-Lightly stuff to make them poo. Well, he just had to have it in his tube abd didnt have to taste that aweful stuff. He was happy!

And after Tx when he was intubated they could give him meds in his G tube with out causing any problems with the vent. etc...It is a multi-useful devise...lol

Soon tho....He will be getting his out!!!!!! He is so excited!</end quote></div>

I asked the docs about Viokase and they don't use it.They said they normally use it only if they cant take anything by mouth. I don't know how to talk them into it since they don't use it. I think it will help her. Right now we give enzymes before bed and when she wakes up. Today i am writing everything she eats and see how many calories she is getting. They want her eating 1100-1200 per day. She is eating good lately. I bust my (you no what) keeping her above 50%. She has been above for the last 4 months.
