Making the decision to stop working is hard. I am struggling with that right now. The article posted my SaltyandSweet was very eye opening. Take a look at it and hopefully that helps.

Also check out my blog to see what some people have said to me about trying to make the decision.

Good luck! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I am sorry to hear about yoru situation. I believe from what I have read that many peole can get their health back a bit when they quit since they have more time to dedicate to their care. Being diagnosed at your age will likely mean you start to improve a bit as well since you will be getting the proper care. I was diagnosed at 21 years of age and 70-80% lung function and have sicne gotten it up to as high at 105% with proper treatment. I hope that you will puruse a full genetic screening.

If you are a new diagnosee, you will likely be starting a slew of treatments that could contribute to an increase in your lung function. Even though the numbers may not seem significant, it is always possible to increase lung function 5-20% with a regular treatment regimine. Even an additional 5% puts your prognosis in a much better situation. I would do what you feel comfortable doing as far as work goes. If you are comfortable still working, then continue to do so, it's good for the mind. Just keep in mind that some time will need to be dedicated to treatments for your well being.

I was off work a couple times in the past. At one time my doc told me I will never work again. I needed to work for my own personal reasons, and pushed to go back at about 30%. I am now 35-40% normally, so I have actually improved. Most of that improvement is attributed to treatment compliance.

If you have not been diagnosed with COPD or CF or any other major malady yet, I would suggest you get life insurance, or LTC insurance if you have a family or plan on having a family. Once you are diagnosed with CF you can never get insurance coverage, with exception to health coverage, and even then it can be difficult to get coverage.
