Can you tell I'm new to this?

*If I'm posting to much, can someone please tell me! I don't want to step on any toes!*

I have a couple more questions. How susceptible is my daughter to getting sick? She started coughing yesterday, and she's also starting to wheeze a lot more in her sleep. Should I be worried?

Also, without veering off into my own personal drama (unless I need to for clarification, or under advisement to vent) Marital issues? Any advice on how to keep my marriage a marriage, and not a divorce?? I'm sure (or at least I hope) there are a few people who know what I'm talking about.

As always, I appreciate ANY advice! Thanks so much everyone!

Ok, first of all post away. You will never be told to stop asking questions. This is the only way you can begin to understand and deal. Everyone goes through this phase; you are doing fine.

As for more susceptible, I've heard various arguements. But as a rule, the risk is that when you are exposed to a resp. illness, you body can quickly remove the bacteria and you don't get sick, or get better quickly.

In someone w/CF; if the bacteria makes it to the lungs, it can be more difficult to remove, causing long-term issues. The purpose of the CPT/vest is to help get the mucus moving and prevent germs from sitting.

Therefore, technically she is not more at risk of getting a cold, but if she gets it then it can be harder to recover from. Make sense?

On swine flu, there is a lot of talk about it but no clear guideance other than to follow normal flu prevention things like washing your hands and avoiding sick people. I do know we went to Disney in May (during swine flu) and the Dr gave us a round of TamiFlu for our son to take if he tested positive for the flu. Swine flu has shown that tamiflu works on it so that is your backup if it were to happen.

Hi, it really does get easier as time goes by, we are still newbies at this too having had our daughter diagnosed last September at 16 months old.

I completely understand the keeping the marriage together comment, its hard enough under normal circumstances but when you add in CF to the mix, oh my !! I think the fact that you are aware of the stress it can add is definately a plus, open communication and understanding that each of you cope differently is huge.

As for Swine Flu, I have 4 daughters and at two of their schools, they both had friends who tested positive, we spoke to our CF clinic and they said the same thing as the previous poster, wash, wash, wash hands and sanitize !!! So far its working, we have hand sanitizer posted at both the front door and the door coming in from the garage, we put the "industrial" wall mounted ones...actually works really well and keeps it out of little hands reach, otherwise we would have the cat and dog sanitized, along with her feet, cheeks and front hall tiles !! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Thinking of you and your little one.

Take care.
