Can you top this? Doctor's note for water

I work at a small catholic school and can tell you why we don't allow water also. The kids can't handle it. You might think your child can but most can't. I teach 5th grade and they throw their water bottles, play with them during teaching time, eat them, anything you can think of. If I was his teacher and knew about CF I would just let him keep one, but maybe she is just trying to save her butt. Some schools can be strict and maybe she doesn't want to get in trouble with the principal.

Also, in terms of pill taking it is really an insurance issue. If something were to happen to the child (choking on a pill) then the school is liable.

Courtney's school also does not allow bottled water.

She also can not carry her enzymes with her. She has to go to the nurse everyday and stand there while the nurse puts them in a little cup, hand them to her, and watch her take them.

I showed them the paper from the CFF stating that enzymes are harmless, and should be allowed to be carried by the child, but they didn't want to listen.......(shrugs)

Are you suggesting that my son would throw a water bottle,or eat it
or play with it during lessons? He's too busy doodling to do any of
those things<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"
border="0" alt="Tongue"> . I know why they have so many concerns
about medications and that the insurance policies require them to
have a doctor's note on file for everything beyond a kleenx and/ or
bandaid.<br>

Liz<br>
I thought pretzels, potato chips, and ice cream were staples, and
that was before CF!!

That has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard and believe me, I've heard some seriously stupid things. If the school is having trouble with kids throwing water bottles, then they need to be disciplining some kids, not banning water. What's next, ban school books because kids throw them? Are the teachers going to just have them do all their work in their heads so they won't throw paper and pencils? OMG! That is absolutely absurd! I would flip if they told me my child could not have water at school.

Our school encourages the kids to bring bottled water. We had a problem with the local water source years ago & even tho testing shows everything is in legal/acceptable levels, administration & the school prefer the kids not drink from the fountains.

Long ago my duaghter's school took out all the toilet tissue from the bathrooms because of "problems.", Each teacher had a roll of toilet paper on their desk that the kid had to get and carry to the bathroom along with their bathroom pass (or was the tissue the bathroom pass).

That lasted about a month after the parents found out about it....

I found out from my daughters teacher this am that somewhere (not sure of the state or school) they had a lockdown. For those not familiar it is when there is an unknown or unwelcome person (a predator or troublesome person of some sort which can also be a non custodial parent) is in the school so all kids are locked into the classrooms. NO one is to leave not even for bathroom privelages. The problem arose when this school teacher wasnt aware that it was a drill so assumed it was the real thing. A child had to go to the bathroom real bad so a bunch of students held up jackets & surrounded her while she pee'd in the garbage can. The parents & administration found out about this & suspended the teacher. Now the problem truly is that IF this wasnt a drill & it was a true lockdown (which the teacher didnt know so she treated it like a true lockdown) and the teacher let this girl go to the bathroom & the "John Doe" in question found her, the school & all involved would be in deep *****. So what do you do? I think she was right in her decision. What is your thought?

EDITED TO ADD: Sorry I think I hijacked the thread. But its still a school war story!

A minor hijacking is okay....but a major one WELL<img alt="Mad"
border="0" src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif">.
I think the teacher acted as best she could....that
sounds like a damn if you do/darn if you don't.  The purpose
of a drill is to treat it as the real thing and most people
involved shouldn't know it is not the real thing. If she had
allowed the girl to wet her clothes she would have really gotten in
bigger trouble.
